You can download Gemini on Android from the Google Play Store, on iPhone from the App Store, and on Windows and Mac from Google's own desktop download pages, or skip the download and use gemini.google.com in a browser. As of October 2026 Android needs Android 9 or later and 2 GB of RAM, while the Windows and Mac apps want 8 GB of RAM.
The catch: some Android phones can't run it at all
The requirement that catches people isn't the Android version. It's the type of phone and profile. Google says Android Go doesn't support the Gemini mobile app, so budget phones running the Go edition won't install it however new they are.
The second one is work phones. You can't open the Gemini app inside the Android Work Profile, so if your employer set up your phone with a separate work side, Gemini lives on the personal side or not at all.
And if your country isn't on the Play Store list, there's still a way in. Google says users in additional countries and territories can reach Gemini through Google Assistant on Android instead.
Where to get Gemini on each device
| Device | Where to download | Requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Google Play Store | Android 9+, 2 GB RAM, no Android Go, no Work Profile |
| iPhone | Gemini app from the App Store | Gemini mobile app availability list applies |
| Windows | gemini.google/desktop (GeminiSetup.exe) | Windows 10+, 8 GB RAM, 200 MB disk |
| Mac | gemini.google/mac (.dmg) | macOS 15+ Apple silicon, 8 GB RAM, 200 MB disk |
| Browser | gemini.google.com | Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera or Edgium |
The desktop apps have their own walkthroughs, so I won't repeat them here: see installing Gemini on a Windows PC and the Gemini app for Mac. The one thing worth knowing up front is that the Mac app only runs on Apple silicon with macOS Sequoia (15.0) or later, so an older Intel Mac is a browser-only machine.
Android phones and tablets in detail
On Android, the download is simply called the Gemini app, and it can also become your phone's mobile assistant. As of October 2026 Google lists these requirements:
- Android 9 and up. Anything older won't install it.
- 2 GB of RAM or more. This is the floor for phones and tablets alike.
- Phones, foldables and tablets. Many foldables are supported, and so are tablets including the Pixel Tablet.
- Not Android Go, not the Work Profile. Both are excluded, as covered above.
On iPhone it's also just the Gemini app. If you're setting it up there, my guide to using Gemini on an iPhone picks up once it's installed.
Countries and languages
The Gemini mobile apps are available in more than 150 countries and in many languages, as of October 2026. On Android, the Google Play Store shows the list of supported countries.
Language support has a wrinkle. The app lists dozens of languages, but some are marked with an asterisk, and those don't support 'Hey Google' voice commands or some of Gemini's action features. If you speak to your phone more than you type, check your language for that asterisk before relying on it.
Who's allowed to sign in
Downloading is the easy part. Whether you can use it depends on your age and the account you sign in with.
- Age. You must be 13 or over (or the applicable age in your country). Under 13 needs a parent's approval.
- Personal accounts. A personal Google Account works.
- Work accounts. You need a qualifying Workspace edition, and you must be 18 or over. On the mobile app, Google says your plan or licence has to include access to Gemini Apps.
- School accounts. These work only if your administrator has switched Gemini on.
- Family Link. A Google Account managed by Family Link still can't use the Gemini web app.
No download at all: the browser route
If you're on a shared computer or a device that fails the requirements, gemini.google.com works in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera or Edgium. You can even use some features without signing in, as of October 2026. To use the extra features or save your activity, you'll need a Google Account.

Install Gemini in four steps
- Pick your device from the table.
- Phone: install the Gemini app from Google Play or the App Store and sign in.
- Windows or Mac: download from the official desktop address, run the installer, sign in.
- Use Alt + Space on Windows or Option + Space on Mac to bring Gemini up from any app.
Both desktop apps list the same jobs: quick answers, drafting content, summarising information, brainstorming, coding help and analysing images. Updates look after themselves too, with a Restart button on Windows and a check from the Gemini menu on Mac.
My verdict on downloading Gemini
I'd install the phone app if you've got a standard Android or an iPhone and you want Gemini as your assistant, since that's where the voice features live. I'd add the desktop app if you work on Windows 10 or later, or an Apple silicon Mac, with at least 8 GB of RAM, and you like a keyboard shortcut over a browser tab. I'd skip the downloads entirely on an Android Go phone, a locked-down work profile or an older Intel Mac, and just use gemini.google.com in the browser.
