Facebook Marketplace fees apply when you sell with shipping and checkout. As of October 2026, Meta's Seller Protection Policy says individual sellers pay a selling fee of one tenth of each transaction, with a minimum fee of $0.80, worked out on the whole amount including shipping and tax. Listing an item costs nothing, and a buyer who collects and pays you in person never goes through Facebook's checkout.
There's a wrinkle worth knowing before you price anything. Facebook's own sell with shipping page still says the selling fee is only half that rate, while the policy that governs sellers states the higher figure. When the two disagree, the policy is the one that applies to you.
Here's every fee and deduction Facebook lists for sellers, when you get paid, and how to keep more of each sale. All figures are in US dollars, as Facebook states them, from Facebook's Help Center and Seller Protection Policy, read in October 2026.
Facebook Marketplace fees at a glance
| Fee or deduction | Amount (as of October 2026) | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Creating a listing | No fee mentioned in Facebook's listing steps | Every listing |
| Selling fee | One tenth of the transaction, minimum $0.80 | Shipped orders through checkout |
| What the fee is worked out on | Item price plus shipping and tax | Each transaction |
| Chargeback fee | $20, returned if you win | When a buyer disputes with their card issuer |
| Tax | Collected by Facebook at checkout in marketplace facilitator states | Shipped orders only |
How the selling fee works
Meta's policy defines a transaction as the sale of an item, or several items shipped together. The fee is worked out on the entire amount, which means the sale price, any shipping fee you charge and applicable tax all count.
Two practical points follow. First, bundling several items into one parcel is one transaction, so the $0.80 minimum only bites once. Second, because shipping is inside the calculation, a high shipping charge raises your fee as well as the buyer's total.
Facebook's help page on getting paid lists the selling fee as the fee for orders with shipping. It's taken from your sale before your payout arrives, so you never send Facebook anything separately.
Is Facebook Marketplace free for local pickup?
Local pickup works differently. When a buyer collects and pays you directly, the sale doesn't go through Facebook's checkout, so there's no Facebook payment for a selling fee to come out of. Facebook's help also notes that it doesn't handle taxes for local pickup.
Listing is free either way. Facebook's steps for selling something on Marketplace are photos, details, price and Publish, and you can even list an item as free by entering 0 as the price.
The $20 chargeback fee
This is the fee sellers don't see coming. If a buyer disputes a payment with their card issuer, Meta's policy says it will deduct the transaction amount and a $20 chargeback fee from your account, or charge your payment method on file if your balance is too low.
- If the chargeback is resolved in your favour, the amount and the $20 fee are credited back.
- Meta covers chargebacks it decides are fraud, such as a stolen card.
- You have 10 calendar days to respond with evidence. Miss that, and the deduction stands.
- Individual sellers can't dispute chargebacks themselves. Meta may dispute them on your behalf.
When you get paid
| Payout route | When the funds arrive |
|---|---|
| PayPal | Available 4 days after delivery confirmation |
| Your payout account (promo page) | Payment started 5 days after delivery confirmation |
| Payments from Facebook (chargeback credits, claim refunds) | Bank only, allow 3 to 5 business days |
You have to mark the order as shipped and add tracking if you use your own label. Facebook gives you 7 calendar days to ship and mark it, and cancels the order automatically if you don't. I've covered that rule in more detail in my guide on whether Facebook Marketplace ships.

Other deadlines that cost you if you miss them
- Buyer problems: if a buyer asks for a refund or raises an issue, you have 2 days to respond before they can claim directly to Meta.
- Claims: once Meta tells you about a Purchase Protection claim, you have 48 hours to send supporting documents.
- Tax ID: if your sales reach Facebook's limit and you haven't given your tax identification number, transfers to your bank are held until you do.
How to keep more of each sale
- Use Meta's prepaid labels. Seller protection only covers shipped items with prepaid labels issued by Meta and sales through onsite checkout.
- Bundle items for the same buyer into one parcel, so it's one transaction and one minimum fee.
- Offer local pickup for bulky or low priced items, where shipping and the fee eat most of the price.
- Answer buyer messages within 2 days and ship within 7, so you stay inside Meta's protection rules.
- When an item sells elsewhere, delete the Marketplace listing so nobody orders it with shipping.
Selling isn't available everywhere in the same way. Facebook notes that some shipping features aren't available to all eligible sellers, and its tax and facilitator wording is written for the US, so check Facebook's help in your own country before you rely on these figures.
My verdict
Selling on Facebook gets simple once you separate the two ways of doing it. Local pickup paid in person carries no Facebook selling fee, and shipped orders through checkout cost you one tenth of the whole transaction, with an $0.80 minimum, as of October 2026. Ignore the lower figure on the promo page, price your shipping with the fee in mind, and guard against the $20 chargeback by shipping on time with a Meta label.
