20k Views on Facebook: Money in India and What Decides It

On their own, 20k views on Facebook don't earn a fixed amount in India, because Facebook doesn't pay a set rate per view. You only earn if your Page or professional-mode profile is in a programme such as Facebook Content Monetization or Stars, and Meta doesn't publish a rupee rate for views. What decides the money is eligibility, not the view count.

If a video has just crossed 20,000 views and you're wondering what that's worth in rupees, here's the honest version. Meta doesn't publish a per-view rate for India or anywhere else, and anyone quoting you an exact figure is guessing. What I can tell you, from Meta's own help pages, is which switches have to be on before a single view earns anything, and how to check them in two minutes.

Why 20k views can earn nothing at all

Views only turn into money inside a monetisation programme. Meta's Partner Monetization Policies list the conditions, and a small page usually trips on one of these first:

ConditionWhat Meta saysCommon reason a new page fails it
Where you postPublic content on Pages, professional-mode profiles, Events and GroupsPosting from a personal profile without professional mode
Where you liveYou must live in an eligible country, and so must your connected financial accountA payout account in a different, ineligible country
How long you've been activeAn established presence for at least 30 daysA brand-new page that went viral in week one
Which programme you're inContent Monetization is by invitation for nowNot invited yet, and no interest form submitted
What the video isStatic videos, slideshows, looping clips and text montages can't be monetisedA photo slideshow with music

That last row catches far more people than they'd expect. A slideshow of images or a looping clip can rack up 20k views and still be ineligible, because Meta's Content Monetization Policies rule those formats out.

The programmes that can turn views into money

Facebook Content Monetization

This is the main way views earn on Facebook now. Meta says invited creators join one programme and can earn across Reels, photos, text posts and stories, with earnings insights showing which posts earn most. It's invitation-based for the moment, with open enrolment planned. You can register interest from your dashboard: open the Monetization tab and choose Content Monetization to find the form.

Stars

This is the one place Meta gives a hard number. For every Star a fan sends, Meta says you earn 1 cent. Stars work on Reels, photos, text posts, stories and Lives. So with Stars, what you earn depends on how many your fans send, not on how many people watched.

Brand deals

A video with 20k views is useful proof when you pitch a local brand. There's no official rate for this. It's whatever you and the brand agree, so your engagement, niche and audience location matter far more than the raw view count.

How to check if your page can earn yet

  1. On a computer, open Meta Business Suite and click Monetization on the left.
  2. In the Status section, click View Page eligibility.
  3. Programmes you can join appear at the top with a Set up button. Ones you can't join yet are listed under Other monetization programs.
  4. On mobile, turn on professional mode, open the Professional dashboard and tap Monetization. Eligible programmes say Ready to set up; otherwise you'll see Not yet eligible.
  5. Tap any programme to see the exact criteria you still need to meet.

Do this before you worry about the money. It tells you, in Meta's own words, what's standing between your 20,000 views and any payout.

Why the view count isn't the number that matters

It's tempting to divide some imagined rate by 20,000 and get a rupee figure. Don't. Two pages with exactly 20,000 views can be in completely different places. One has been posting original Reels for months, lives in an eligible country, has a payout account set up and is in Content Monetization. The other went viral with a reposted clip from a profile without professional mode. The first may earn something from those views. The second earns nothing, because Meta's rules say so, not because the audience was smaller.

So when someone in a comment thread says they got a certain amount for 20k views, ask which programme, which format and which country. Without those three answers, their number tells you nothing about yours.

What I'd do next with a page at 20k views

  • Make the next video original. Meta only monetises content you created or meaningfully edited. Reposts and compilations without commentary or creative editing don't qualify.
  • Avoid the banned formats. Swap slideshows and text montages for short talking or demo videos.
  • Keep posting for 30 days. An established presence is a basic condition, so consistency beats one lucky hit.
  • Turn on Stars once you're eligible. It's the simplest programme to understand.
  • Register interest in Content Monetization. It costs you a minute and puts you in the queue.

For context on bigger milestones, see what I found on two million views on Facebook in India and ten million views, which run into the same rules at a larger scale.

My verdict

20k views is a good sign, but it isn't a payslip. Treat it as proof that people want what you make, check your eligibility in Meta Business Suite today, and build towards the programmes. If you're not eligible yet, the money from this video is zero, and that's fine: the views still help you get there.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Facebook pay for 20k views in India?

There's no fixed amount. Facebook doesn't pay a set rate per view and Meta doesn't publish a rupee rate for India. You only earn through programmes such as Content Monetization or Stars once you're eligible.

Can a personal Facebook profile earn from views?

Not unless professional mode is on. Meta says profiles outside professional mode are ineligible for monetisation features.

How do I know if my Facebook page is eligible to earn?

Open Meta Business Suite on a computer, click Monetization, then View Page eligibility, or check Monetization in the Professional Dashboard on mobile.

Do slideshow videos earn money on Facebook?

No. Meta's Content Monetization Policies say slideshows of images, static videos, looping videos and text montages can't be monetised.

How much do Facebook Stars pay?

Meta says you earn 1 cent for every Star you receive from a fan.
