Twitch Payouts in Bangladesh: Taka, Fees and the US Treaty

Twitch pays Bangladeshi streamers in US dollars once they reach Affiliate or Partner, and I found no Twitch page listing Bangladesh as unsupported. Bangladesh is on the IRS tax treaty list, and taka conversion and wire fees apply.

Bangladesh has a young, online and very gaming-friendly population, so it makes sense that streamers in Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet and Rajshahi want to know whether Twitch can pay them. The short version: Twitch pays Affiliates and Partners in US dollars, I found no Twitch page that lists Bangladesh as unsupported, and your tax position is better defined than in most of the countries I've covered. Here's the detail.

Bangladesh, Affiliate and what Twitch pays for

You can't be paid as a regular channel. Twitch asks for 50 followers, at least 8 hours streamed, 7 different streaming days and an average of 3 or more viewers in a 30 day window before you become an Affiliate. After that you earn 1 cent per Bit and a 50/50 subscription split after taxes and processing fees.

For many Bangladeshi channels the 7 different days rule is the one that bites, because evening streams compete with load shedding, study and family time. A fixed, short, regular schedule beats a long irregular one.

Four countries have a US tax treaty in this series, and Bangladesh is one

Twitch's onboarding includes tax information, and the IRS keeps a list of countries with an income tax treaty with the United States. Bangladesh is on it, with the treaty effective from 2007. I pulled the royalty columns from the IRS table of treaty rates to compare the four treaty countries in this series:

CountryTreaty effectiveRoyalty columns in IRS Table 1
Bangladesh200710 across all types
India199115 for most types, 10 for industrial equipment
Pakistan1960Zero for know-how, patents and copyrights
South Africa1998Zero for most types

Please read that table with care. I couldn't confirm how Twitch classifies streaming income, and the IRS itself says its table isn't a full guide to eligibility. So 10 is not a promise about your Twitch earnings. It's a reason to ask a Bangladeshi accountant, and to complete the tax interview carefully so any treaty claim has the right information behind it.

Taka, poisha and the conversion step

The Bangladeshi taka is issued by Bangladesh Bank and divided into 100 poisha, though poisha are no longer in circulation. Twitch pays in US dollars. Its non-US eCheck or local bank option converts into your local currency at the wholesale exchange rate for a fee, so the taka figure depends on the rate on the day.

Bangladesh is outside the US and outside the Eurozone. ACH direct deposit is for US residents only and SEPA transfer is for Eurozone residents only, both per Twitch's Payout Details FAQ. That leaves eCheck or local bank, PayPal, check and wire, and the Affiliate Onboarding Guide warns that availability can differ by region. I couldn't find a Twitch page that confirms or rules out any specific method for Bangladesh, so what your settings show is what counts.

The money maths for a small Bangladeshi balance

  1. Reach the minimum: 50 US dollars for most methods, 100 US dollars for a wire.
  2. Avoid the wire if you can. Twitch lists 16.00 US dollars as its wire fee outside the US.
  3. Expect a currency exchange fee of 2.50% of the transaction, which isn't in the fee schedule.
  4. Expect your own bank to take a share as well, and ask what it charges before you choose.

Balances under the minimum aren't lost. They carry forward to the following month and keep growing.

What to keep in a Bangladesh payout folder

Create one folder, on paper or on your phone, for everything Twitch sends you. Save the payout statement each time money is released, a copy of the tax information you submitted, a screenshot of the payout method you picked, and your bank's record of the conversion into taka. If your bank or an accountant asks where a deposit came from, you'll have the answer ready.

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

It also pays to write down the exchange rate on each payout. After two or three, you'll know whether the local bank route is treating you better than a wire, and you'll be choosing from your own figures rather than rumours in a group chat.

What Twitch's 2022 minimum change tells you about Bangladesh

Twitch brought in the 50 US dollar minimum, down from 100 US dollars, one country at a time in 2022. The countries I could find were Argentina, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain and Taiwan, followed by Australia, Chile, France, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Peru. Bangladesh wasn't in them. That's old information and it proves nothing about now, but it's one more reason to read the number on your own account.

Building a second income line from Bangladesh

While you work towards Affiliate, don't bet everything on one site. The other pages in this series help you compare. Twitch in India has the nearest tax picture, Twitch in Kenya shows a country with no treaty at all, which is a useful contrast for keeping records.

Frequently asked questions

Does Twitch pay in Bangladesh?

Twitch pays Affiliates and Partners in US dollars, and I found no Twitch page that lists Bangladesh as unsupported. Twitch publishes no country list for payouts, so check your own settings.

Does Bangladesh have a tax treaty with the US?

Yes. Bangladesh is on the IRS list of US tax treaties, effective from 2007, and the IRS royalty columns show 10. How that applies to Twitch income should be confirmed with an accountant.

Which payout methods are closed to Bangladesh?

ACH direct deposit is for US residents only and SEPA transfer is for Eurozone residents only, so neither applies in Bangladesh.

How much does a Twitch wire to Bangladesh cost?

Twitch lists a wire fee of 16.00 US dollars for creators outside the US, plus a currency exchange fee of 2.50%, and wires need a balance of 100 US dollars.
