Diffbot Alternatives (2026): 9 Web Data Extraction Tools

A Diffbot alternative only makes sense once you know whether you need ready-made facts about companies, people and things, or data pulled from particular websites. Most replacements do the second job, extracting what's on the pages you point them at, so settle that question before you compare a single tool.

'Fetch knowledge, not markdown' is the line Diffbot's homepage leads with. It says it turns the raw web into structured knowledge and grounds AI on verified facts from the public web, and it also pitches web search you own: a web index packaged to run on your own hardware.

That's a very particular product, and most of what people compare it with does something else. The nine tools here are listed in no particular order, nothing is ranked or linked, and the table comes first so you can see the spread before the detail.

Knowledge or page extraction: which are you buying?

Diffbot's own pitch is knowledge: entities and facts gathered from across the web and handed to you ready to use. Almost every alternative on this page works differently. They extract the content of pages you point them at, or they let you build scrapers that you configure and run.

That difference decides how hard your move will be. If you used Diffbot to pull articles, products or listings from sites you already knew, an extraction tool can replace that job directly, and you'll probably get more control over exactly what comes back. If your product leaned on Diffbot's entity and fact data, such as companies and the links between them, none of these tools hands you that out of the box. You'd be building it yourself from the pages you collect.

So write down which of the two you were using before you look at features. It's the single question that shrinks this list fastest.

Where each extractor earns its place

Apify

Best for: Teams who'd sooner choose from ready-made tools for competitor tracking and similar web data jobs than build extraction themselves.

Browse AI

Best for: Non-coders who want websites watched for changes and turned into APIs, without writing any scraping code.

Firecrawl

Best for: AI agent projects that need clean web content fed in through a web data API built with that job in mind.

Import.io

Best for: Companies wanting websites turned into structured data, with the option of managed data services and MCP tools for AI agents.

Olostep

Best for: Research, enrichment and RAG pipelines that want search, scraping, crawling, structuring and monitoring behind one API.

ParseHub

Best for: Point-and-click users pulling data from websites with a visual scraper instead of code.

ScrapeGraphAI

Best for: Developers who'd rather describe what to extract than maintain selectors or proxies, which is how the vendor pitches its scraping API.

Web Scraper

Best for: Engineering teams that need scraping infrastructure with API access, proxy management and anti-bot handling.

Zyte

Best for: Organisations that may want the work done for them, with an AI-powered scraping platform and a managed data delivery team, 'your devs or ours'.

Developer APIs, managed services or point-and-click

APIs built for AI and developers. ScrapeGraphAI, Olostep and Firecrawl all aim at feeding clean, structured web content into AI agents and pipelines. Web Scraper sits close to them for engineering teams that care most about proxies and anti-bot handling.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Managed delivery. If you don't want to own scrapers at all, Import.io and Zyte both offer people to do the extraction for you, alongside their own platforms.

Ready-made and no-code. Apify offers tools someone else has already built for common jobs. Browse AI and ParseHub let non-developers set up extraction by pointing and clicking, which suits marketing and research teams who need data but don't have an engineer to spare.

Advice for anyone replacing a knowledge API

Be honest with yourself about who'll maintain the result. A knowledge product hides the scraping from you, and an extraction tool doesn't. Sites change their layouts, block traffic and move content around, and someone has to notice and fix it. If nobody on your team wants that job, a managed service or a ready-made tool is the safer move, even if a developer API looks more flexible on paper.

Check the rules for the sites you plan to collect from as well. Terms of use and data protection requirements vary by site and by country, so read each site's terms and check your regulator's guidance before you scale anything up.

For more options on the developer side, my guide to the best web scraping APIs covers APIs built for bulk collection, and my list of lead scraping tools is the one to read if you mostly need contact and company data for sales.

Pilot one site before you migrate everything

  1. Pick one site you collect from today and list the exact fields you use.
  2. Set up that site in two tools from different groups above, for example one API and one no-code tool.
  3. Run both for a couple of weeks so you see how they cope with at least one layout change.
  4. Compare the output against what you used to get, field by field.
  5. Note how long each one took to set up and to fix when something broke.
  6. Only then move the rest of your sites across, one at a time.

It's slower than switching everything in a day, but it shows you the maintenance load before you've committed to it.

Frequently asked questions

What does Diffbot sell now?

Its homepage says 'fetch knowledge, not markdown' and describes turning the raw web into structured knowledge, grounding AI on verified facts, and a web index you can run on your own hardware.

What's the difference between a knowledge graph and web scraping?

A knowledge graph gives you facts about things, such as companies and people, already linked together. Web scraping pulls content from specific pages, and you decide how to structure and connect it.

Can a no-code scraper replace a developer API?

For a handful of sites with simple layouts, often yes. For many sites, heavy volume or pages that block automated traffic, a developer API or a managed service usually holds up better.

When is a managed data service worth it?

When you need the data but don't want to build or maintain scrapers yourself. The provider handles the extraction and delivers the results.

Can these tools feed AI agents and RAG pipelines?

Several are built for exactly that, returning clean, structured content that a model can read. Check the output formats each one supports.

Is it legal to scrape websites?

Requirements vary by country and by site. Read each site's terms of use, check your regulator's guidance on personal data, and take legal advice before collecting at scale.
