ClickUp Brain: What It Costs, How AI Super Credits Work and What You Get

ClickUp Brain is ClickUp's built-in AI, now called Brain 2, and it starts at $9 per user a month as ClickUp shows it, as of October 2026. It works inside your tasks, docs, chat, calendar, email and connected apps, so you don't have to explain the context of your work every time you ask it something.

Here's the catch. The $9 buys you Brain 2 chat, premium models and 1,500 AI Super Credits. The parts that do work on their own, like Notetaker, AI Fields, Automations and Super Agents, sit in the Everything AI option at $28 per user a month as ClickUp shows it. And while chatting with Brain 2 is unlimited on paid plans, agents and AI automations burn credits. These are ClickUp's US prices in US dollars, so readers in other countries may see different numbers or availability.

The two ClickUp AI prices side by side

ClickUp's AI page and FAQ list the options like this, as of October 2026, with each price shown per user a month:

ClickUp AI optionPrice per user a month, as ClickUp shows itWhat it includes
Free plan trial$0Try Brain 2 before committing
Brain 2 AIFrom $9Unlimited Brain 2, premium models (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini), 1,500 AI Super Credits
Everything AI$28Brain 2 plus Notetaker, AI Fields, Automations and Super Agents

The page's hero line puts it simply: "No card required. Unlimited starts at $9". So you can test Brain 2 on a free ClickUp plan before you pay anything. If you want to know what the free ClickUp plan itself covers, I've written up whether ClickUp is free.

How AI Super Credits work

This is the bit most people miss, so it's worth getting clear. ClickUp splits its AI into two kinds of use:

  • Brain 2 conversations. These are unlimited on any paid plan, and ClickUp says they don't use AI Super Credits at all. Ask it questions about your tasks and docs as often as you like.
  • Advanced capabilities. Super Agents, AI Automations and AI-powered fields run on AI Super Credits. Brain 2 AI includes 1,500 of them a month.

So the credit count only matters if you switch on agents and automations. If you mostly chat with Brain 2, you're unlikely to think about credits. If you set Super Agents loose on your workspace, keep an eye on how fast they get used.

Which AI models Brain 2 runs

Brain 2 isn't one model. ClickUp says you can switch between Claude, GPT, Gemini and others with one click, and every model gets the same workspace context and tools under the same permissions. That means you aren't paying for a separate ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini login just to get those models inside ClickUp.

ClickUp's argument against using those chatbots on their own is that they "don't know your work", while Brain 2 lives inside your tasks and docs. That's ClickUp's pitch, but it's a fair point if your projects already live there.

What Brain 2 can do

The features ClickUp names on its AI page are:

  • AI chats, channels, tasks and projects.
  • Skills.
  • Deep Search across your workspace, connected apps and the web.
  • Talk to Text.
  • Presence, which joins calls and takes notes.
  • Ambient and Super Agents.
  • Native desktop and mobile apps on macOS, iOS, Windows and Android.

Memory, and bringing yours from ChatGPT or Claude

Brain 2 has persistent memory. ClickUp says it memorises your role, your workflows and your communication style, and you can view, edit or delete those personal preferences. If you've already trained ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini on how you work, ClickUp says you can import those memories in one click, so you aren't starting from zero.

Privacy and who can see your chats

For a lot of small businesses this is the first question, so here's what ClickUp says. Your data is never used to train third-party AI models. ClickUp lists SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR and HIPAA compliance, says it enforces zero-retention policies with its AI subprocessors, and says Brain 2 only surfaces information you already have permission to access. Your conversations with Brain 2 are private to you, and ClickUp's FAQ says admins can't view them.

ClickUp's Best AI Guarantee

ClickUp offers what it calls a Best AI Guarantee: if you aren't satisfied within 30 days that Brain 2 beats any competing AI product, ClickUp says you'll get a refund. The page also makes benchmark claims about quality and cost, but those come from ClickUp's own study, so I'd lean on the free trial and the guarantee rather than the benchmarks.

Getting started with ClickUp Brain in five steps

  1. Try Brain 2 on a free ClickUp plan first. No card is needed.
  2. Work out what you need beyond chat: agents, meeting notes or AI fields.
  3. Choose Brain 2 AI if chat and credits are enough, or Everything AI if you want Notetaker, AI Fields, Automations and Super Agents.
  4. Import your memory from ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini so Brain 2 knows how you work.
  5. Watch credit use once Super Agents are running.

My verdict

If your team already lives in ClickUp, Brain 2 is worth trying, because it can see the tasks and docs a standalone chatbot can't. Start on the free plan, and only step up to Brain 2 AI once you're using it every day. I wouldn't jump straight to Everything AI unless you know you'll use the Notetaker or Super Agents, because that's where the higher price comes from. But if all you want is a chatbot and your work isn't in ClickUp, skip it. For the cost of ClickUp's own plans, see my ClickUp plans breakdown.
