The catch: uses don't reset
Here's the thing that catches people. Some features on Free Forever come with a set number of uses. ClickUp's FAQ says uses are a demonstration of features from the higher plans, they're counted across the whole Workspace, and they don't reset or count down. When you reach a use limit, you won't lose any data, but you won't be able to edit or create new items with that feature.
So if you build your project plan around Gantt charts or lots of custom fields in your first week, you can use up the free allowance for good. Try those features on a test project first, and build your real setup around the ones that are unlimited on Free, such as tasks, Docs, Kanban and Calendar.
The other two limits to plan for
Storage is the first. 60MB is small. ClickUp's FAQ says tasks don't count towards storage, only file attachments do. So link to files in Google Drive or Dropbox instead of uploading them, and that 60MB lasts much longer.
Guests are the second. ClickUp says Free Forever Workspaces can have unlimited members and guests, but on Free, guests get full create and edit permissions, and you can't change that. If you invite a client as a guest, they can edit anything they can see. Keep client-facing work in a separate Space, or share a view link instead.

ClickUp says that when you hit a use limit you won't lose any data. Your existing Gantt charts, fields and boards stay where they are. You just can't create or edit new items with that feature. So the free plan is safe to try, and you won't wake up to find your tasks gone.

It's easy to focus on the limits, so here's the other side. On Free Forever, tasks are unlimited, members are unlimited, and Docs, Kanban boards, Calendar view and sprint management are all listed as included. Custom statuses are included too. If your work is mainly task lists and boards, you may never touch the limited features at all.

ClickUp Free for client projects
If you manage client work in ClickUp, set up one Space per client type rather than one per client, because Free Forever lists 5 Spaces. Keep tasks, due dates and Docs inside ClickUp, link to files in your cloud storage, and you can run a lot of client work without touching the limits. Just remember that any client you add as a guest gets full edit rights on Free.
My verdict: ClickUp is free, and Free Forever is one of the most generous free work apps going. Keep files linked rather than uploaded, test the limited features before relying on them, and be careful who you invite as a guest.
