Buffer Review: Per-Channel Pricing, Free Plan and Team Plan

Buffer is a social media scheduling tool for solo creators and small businesses who want simple posting, an ideas inbox and analytics across a handful of channels. The catch, as of Oct 2026, is that you pay per channel: Essentials is 5 dollars a month for each channel and Team is 10 dollars, so the bill grows with every account you connect.

Buffer's pricing makes sense the moment you spot the unit it's built on, and that unit is the channel. I read Buffer's own pricing page, and the question to ask yourself isn't which plan to pick. It's how many channels you'll connect.

Buffer's Free, Essentials and Team plans per channel

PlanPriceWhat's includedThe limit that bites
FreeNothing, free foreverUp to 3 channels, 100 ideas, one user account, AI Assistant, Insights, community inbox, API access with one key10 scheduled posts per channel, which you can refill anytime
Essentials5 dollars a month per channel, or 60 dollars a year per channel billed yearlyUnlimited scheduled posts per channel, unlimited ideas, AI Assistant, advanced analytics, 3 API keys, hashtag manager, first comment scheduling, 14-day free trialOne user account
Team10 dollars a month per channel, or 120 dollars a year per channel billed yearlyUnlimited team members, advanced analytics, 5 API keys, access levels, content approval workflows, 14-day free trialThe higher per-channel rate is the price of the team features

Prices as listed on Buffer's pricing page, as of Oct 2026, check the vendor's page before you buy. The page says the yearly figures save you 2 months.

Every Buffer channel carries its own price

This is the bit that decides whether Buffer suits you. The page puts it plainly: you only pay for the channels you use, and you can add channels as you grow and remove them when you don't need them. That's lovely if you've got two or three accounts. It works differently if you run a lot of them.

Here's how it adds up. Essentials is 5 dollars a month per channel, or 60 a year per channel on yearly billing. Team is 10 dollars a month per channel, or 120 a year. Worked from the page's own rates, 5 channels on Essentials is 25 dollars a month, and the same 5 channels on Team is 50. Every channel you add moves the total, so count yours honestly before you start the trial.

The other thing to know is where the team features live. Essentials is one user account. Unlimited team members, access levels and content approval workflows are listed only on Team. So if you've got someone who writes posts and someone else who signs them off, you're paying the Team rate on every channel, not just one.

The free plan is a sensible place to start. It covers up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel, and you can refill those slots anytime, so it's enough to see whether Buffer's way of working suits you before a card goes in.

What Buffer does day to day

  1. Connect your social channels, up to 3 on the free plan or as many as you pay for on Essentials and Team.
  2. Collect post ideas in one place: 100 on the free plan and unlimited on Essentials.
  3. Write posts, with the AI Assistant to help on every plan, and schedule them into a queue for each channel.
  4. Schedule a first comment and manage hashtags on the paid plans.
  5. Check how posts did with Insights on the free plan or advanced analytics on Essentials and Team.
  6. On Team, set access levels and send posts through an approval step before they go out.

Who'll get on with Buffer, and who won't

It's a good fit for:

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

  • Solo creators and small businesses with a few social channels who want simple scheduling.
  • Anyone who likes keeping post ideas and analytics in the same tool.
  • People who are happy to pay by the channel and add more as they grow.

It's a weaker fit for:

  • Teams that need approval workflows on the lower per-channel price, because they're only on Team.
  • Anyone running lots of channels, where per-channel billing adds up quickly.
  • People who need more than 10 scheduled posts per channel without paying.

My advice on Buffer, channel by channel

I'd start on the free plan with your three most important channels and see if the queue suits the way you post. If you're working alone and need more scheduled posts, Essentials is the next step, and I'd use the 14-day trial to check the analytics before you commit. I'd only move to Team when someone else needs to log in or approve posts. Count your channels first and multiply by the rate on the page, because that's your real monthly figure.
