A real estate exam app helps you prepare for the salesperson licence exam with practice questions, flashcards and timed mock exams covering both the national portion and your state's portion. Some give you free questions every day, some include a full pre-licensing course. Ten apps follow, in no particular order.
The licence exam is the last hurdle after hours of pre-licensing coursework, and it's where a lot of would-be agents stall. The questions mix property law, contracts, finance terms and maths, and the state portion tests rules that change from one state to the next.
The apps below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and each description comes from the provider's own App Store listing, read this week. If you're planning the business side already, my guide on how to build a real estate business from scratch is a good next read.
Real estate exam apps at a glance
I checked the free plan column on each provider's own App Store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the listing names a free version, a free tier, free lessons or tests, or a free daily set of questions. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the listing I read named neither, even where there's a download button, so check the provider's own page before you subscribe.

What California's DRE says about the exam
Every state runs its own licensing, so your state's real estate commission is the final word. The California Department of Real Estate (DRE) is a useful example. It runs the salesperson and broker exams at five exam centres around the state: Sacramento, Oakland, Fresno, La Palma and San Diego.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
The DRE says applicants must meet education and experience requirements before applying for a licence, and that the best way to schedule or reschedule your exam is online through its eLicensing service, where you create a free account with your examinee ID number.
Why the state portion catches people out
Most apps are strong on the national portion: property ownership, contracts, agency and finance. The state portion is where generic apps fall short, because it tests your own state's licence law, disclosure rules and commission regulations.
Look for an app that names your state, or pair a national app with your pre-licensing course notes for the state section. A high score on national questions alone can give you false confidence.
Four weeks to exam day
- Week 1: finish your course and list the topics you found hardest.
- Week 2: drill those topics in the app every day, with flashcards for the vocabulary.
- Week 3: switch to state-specific questions and the maths problems.
- Week 4: full timed mock exams until you pass them with room to spare, then a rest day before the test.
Four checks before you choose an app
- Your state. Make sure the app covers your state portion, not only the national one.
- Explanations. Every answer should come with a reason you can learn from.
- Timed mocks. The real exam is timed, so practise under the clock.
- Your test provider. Some states use PSI or other providers, and some apps follow their format.

My plain advice on real estate exam apps
Use your course for the learning and an app for the repetition. Pick one app that covers your state, work on your weakest topics daily, and don't book until you're passing timed mock exams comfortably.
Once you're licensed, these ChatGPT prompts for real estate agents will save you hours on listings and follow-ups.
