PTE Apps (2026): 10 Apps for PTE Academic Practice

A PTE app lets you practise PTE Academic, PTE Core or PTE UKVI questions on your phone, often with AI scoring for speaking and writing. Some give free mock tests or free daily scoring, some suit coaching centres and one focuses on vocabulary. Ten apps follow, in no particular order.

The PTE is popular with people applying to study, work or settle abroad, and a lot of them prepare around a job. A phone app is the easiest way to keep speaking and listening practice going every day.

The ten apps below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the app's own App Store listing, read this week. If you're weighing PTE against IELTS, my list of IELTS writing topics gives a feel for the other test's writing tasks.

PTE practice apps compared

I checked the free plan column on each app's own App Store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the listing names a free app, a free version, a free tier or free content. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the listing I read named neither, even where there's a download button, so check the app's own page before you subscribe.

What Pearson PTE says about the test

Pearson PTE describes PTE Academic as a single computer-based test of speaking, writing, reading and listening, taken in about 2 hours at a test centre with no more than 15 seats per room. It says results usually arrive in about 2 days.

Pearson also says scoring combines AI with human expertise, and that most institutions want a test taken within the last two years. So book the real test close enough to your application that your score is still valid when you need it.

Why AI scoring practice helps

Because the real test uses AI in its scoring, practising with an app that scores your speaking and writing can show you habits that lose you marks, such as long pauses, unclear pronunciation or answers that stop too early. It also gets you used to talking to a computer rather than a person, which feels strange at first and throws plenty of people on the day.

Treat app scores as a guide, not a promise. Each app's engine is its own, so use the scores to track whether you're improving rather than to decide exactly what you'll get on the day.

A two-week PTE warm-up

  1. Take one free mock test to find your weakest skill.
  2. Practise speaking tasks out loud every day, recording yourself.
  3. Learn the answer patterns for the trickiest question types.
  4. Add timed reading and listening sets in the second week.
  5. Take a second mock test and compare it with the first.

My plain advice on PTE apps

Start with an app that gives you a free mock test, so you know your starting point without paying anything. Then practise speaking out loud every single day, because that's where most people lose marks and where an app's feedback helps most.

Book the real test only when your practice scores are steady, and leave time before your deadline in case you need a second go. For study habits that stick, my guide to ChatGPT prompts for studying effectively is a good companion.
