A study abroad app helps you find universities and programs overseas, apply and track your applications, or settle in once you arrive. Some are run by program providers, some use AI to guide you, and some are social networks of other applicants. Ten apps follow, in no particular order.
Planning to study abroad means juggling course searches, deadlines, documents, visas and, eventually, a whole new city. No single app does all of it, but the right two or three can save you a lot of tabs and spreadsheets.
The ten apps below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order. Every description comes from the app's own App Store listing, read this week. If you're also preparing for entrance tests, my guide to finding free exam study materials will help with that part.
Study abroad apps at a glance
I checked the free plan column on each app's own App Store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the listing names a free app, a free version, a free tier or free content. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the listing I read named neither, even where there's a download button, so check the app's own page before you subscribe.

Check the visa rules before anything else
An app can shortlist universities, but your visa decides whether and when you can go. For the UK, GOV.UK says you can apply for a Student visa if you're 16 or over, have been offered a place on a course by a licensed university or college, have enough money to support yourself and can speak, read, write and understand English.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
GOV.UK also says you'll usually get a decision within 3 weeks if you apply from outside the UK. Other countries have their own rules and timelines, so read the official immigration page for your destination before you accept an offer or book a flight.
Four kinds of study abroad app
Program finders show exchange and semester programs, often the ones your home university already approves. Application trackers let you search many universities and keep every application in one place. AI guides suggest courses and next steps based on your profile. And arrival apps help with life on the ground, from paperwork to finding your way around a new city.
Most students need one finder or tracker before they apply and one arrival app once they land. Using five apps for the same job usually means five sets of notifications and missed messages.
Questions to ask a study abroad app
- Who runs it, and is it linked to a counselling or agency service?
- Does it list universities in the countries you're considering?
- What does it do with your documents and personal data?
- Does it help with visas, or only with applications?
- Can you talk to a real person if something goes wrong?
Do you make study abroad, university application or student relocation apps? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice on study abroad apps
Use one app to shortlist and track your applications, and check every visa rule on the official government page for your destination, not in an app. Be careful with apps that push you towards particular universities, since some are linked to agencies. And once you've arrived, a good city or paperwork app is worth more than any ranking.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best app for studying abroad?
It depends on your stage. Program finders and application trackers help before you apply, while arrival apps help once you land.
Are study abroad apps free?
Most are free to download, but the listings I read don't name a free plan, so check each app's own page.
Can an app apply to universities for me?
Some apps help you search, track and submit applications, but you're still responsible for what you send.
Do I need a visa to study in the UK?
Usually yes. GOV.UK sets out the Student visa rules, including an offer from a licensed university or college and English skills.
How long does a UK student visa take?
GOV.UK says you'll usually get a decision within 3 weeks if you apply from outside the UK.
Are study abroad agencies trustworthy?
Many are, but check who runs an app, whether it's linked to an agency, and never pay anyone to bypass official visa steps.
