Best PDF to PPT Converters (2026): 10 for Editable Slides

The best PDF to PPT converter is one that matches your file. A PDF with selectable text can go straight into editable slides, but a scanned PDF needs a text recognition step first, and several makers say so on their own pages. After that, choose between a PDF toolkit and a converter site that handles many formats.

Every PDF to PowerPoint converter promises editable slides. What the pages don't all make obvious is that the result depends on what's inside your PDF, and that some of these sites are PDF toolkits while others convert between a long list of file types.

This list covers ten converters, using only what each maker's site says, read on 2 Nov 2026 (as of Nov 2026). It's alphabetical and in no particular order. I've left out layout promises and speed lines: it's about how each one works and what it says about your file.

Selectable text or a scan?

Here's the part a searcher wouldn't guess: PDF to PPT only gives you editable slides if the PDF has selectable text. iLovePDF's options say it will 'convert PDFs with selectable text into editable PowerPoint files', and its page warns when 'some of your files contain scanned pages', adding that OCR is needed to extract all the text.

So a scanned PDF needs a text recognition step first. Two other converter pages carry the same prompt in their own words: one asks 'Do You Need Text Recognition?' beside a Recognize text option, and one tells you to run OCR text recognition first to get editable text.

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

  • Selectable text: the case these converters handle directly, into editable PowerPoint files in one maker's words.
  • Scanned pages: one maker says OCR converts non-selectable text from scanned documents into editable Office files.
  • Content merged into an image: one maker says it converts as a single element.

If the PDF is mostly a table, one of these PDF to Excel converters is a better fit than slides.

What happens to each page

Soda PDF says you can 'convert PDF to PowerPoint online in just a few clicks', and its page explains what happens next: every page in your PDF will convert into a new slide, and elements stay as elements unless they were merged into an image in the PDF, in which case the whole image converts as one element.

PDF toolkits versus converter sites for many formats

The second split is the kind of site. Some are PDF toolkits, where PDF to PowerPoint sits beside merge, split, compress and edit tools, and one of these takes PDF, image, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files in the same upload box. Others are converter sites for many formats, where PPTX is one output in a long list.

LightPDF says you can 'convert PDF to PPT online without any installation', and Smallpdf says you can convert from your browser on Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone or Android. If you convert other file types too, a converter site keeps everything in one place. If you mostly work with PDFs, a toolkit puts the other PDF jobs a click away.

Before you turn a PDF into slides

  • Can I select the text in the PDF, or is it a scan?
  • Do I need every page as its own slide?
  • Are there links in the PDF that should stay clickable?
  • Do I want PPTX, or another output format as well?
  • Will I convert on a phone, a tablet or a computer?
  • How long have I got to tidy the slides after converting?

My advice on PDF to PowerPoint

Try selecting the text in your PDF before anything else. If you can, any converter here that names editable slides is a sensible place to start. If you can't, it's a scan, so pick a tool whose page offers OCR or text recognition. Either way, open the slides before you present them, and don't leave the conversion until five minutes before the meeting.

For the steps, see my guide on how to convert PDF to PowerPoint, and when the deck's done, here's how to convert PowerPoint to PDF to send it back out.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a scanned PDF to PowerPoint?

Only after text recognition, according to the makers here. One toolkit warns when your files contain scanned pages and says OCR is needed to extract all the text, and other converter pages offer a Recognize text option or tell you to run OCR first to get editable text.

Will each PDF page become its own slide?

On several of these pages, yes. One says every page in your PDF will convert into a new slide, one promises one slide per page, and another says each PDF page becomes a PPTX slide.

What's the difference between PPT and PPTX?

Several converters here name PPTX as their output. One converter site describes PPTX as a presentation file format associated with Microsoft Office, and another says its output is in the modern PPTX format. Several pages use PPT in their titles for the same job.

Do any of these keep links clickable?

One converter site has an Add Web Links setting that turns text-based links in the PDF into clickable links in the converted PowerPoint slides.

Can I convert PDF to PPT on a phone?

Some makers say so. One says its converter works on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android, one says you can convert from your browser on iPhone or Android, and one says you can turn a PDF into PPTX on a computer, tablet or smartphone.
