Payment Orchestration Platforms (2026): 10 Compared

A payment orchestration platform sits between your checkout and several payment providers, routing each transaction to the provider most likely to approve it and retrying elsewhere if one fails, all through one integration. It doesn't replace a payment gateway; it decides which gateway to use. Ten platforms follow in no particular order.

Once a business sells in several countries, one payment provider rarely fits everywhere. Approval rates differ by region, local payment methods matter, and an outage at a single provider stops every sale. Orchestration lets you connect several providers once and decide, payment by payment, where each one goes.

The ten platforms below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from each vendor's own website, read as of Oct 2026. If you're still choosing the provider that processes cards, my guide to payment gateways covers that first step.

Payment orchestration platforms side by side

I checked the free plan column on each vendor's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, a free version or an open source edition. Trial only means the page names a time-limited free trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, so check the vendor's own site before you sign up.

Ten payment orchestration platforms for multi-provider payments

Corefy

Best for: Payment businesses that want orchestration with 650+ providers, plus a white-label gateway option for building their own payment service.

Gr4vy

Best for: Enterprises and ISOs wanting a payment orchestration platform with a connections library, positioned as much more than a single PSP.

IXOPAY

Best for: Global merchants that want smart routing, automated reconciliation and pre-built adapters for 200+ acquirers and 300+ payment methods.

Juspay Hyperswitch

Best for: Engineering-led businesses wanting an open source, modular payments stack they can deploy themselves, with routing and a vault as modules.

Payrails

Best for: Enterprises treating payments as an operating system, with orchestration, a token vault, network tokenization and customisable payment workflows.

Primer

Best for: Merchants wanting checkout, routing fallbacks and one source of truth across payment operations, now pitched as unified intelligence for payments.

Rapyd

Best for: Businesses wanting one global provider for accepting payments online and in-store, sending payouts and issuing cards, rather than routing between many.

Solidgate

Best for: Growing online businesses wanting one integration to connect multiple payment providers, plus billing, antifraud and dispute recovery.

Spreedly

Best for: Global merchants that want payment token ownership and portability across providers, with intelligent payment optimisation and fraud tools.

Yuno

Best for: Businesses wanting specialised AI agents across the payment stack that route, retry and recover payments to lift approvals.

Orchestrators are turning into payments intelligence

Here's the shift I noticed across the vendor pages. Primer now leads with unified intelligence for payments. Yuno calls itself the AI-native intelligence system of global payments, and IXOPAY has released a product called Payments Intelligence. Routing is becoming table stakes; the pitch now is AI that explains and improves every payment.

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

At the other end, Juspay's Hyperswitch is an open source orchestrator you can deploy yourself, and Corefy leads with 650+ providers. So you're choosing between a managed intelligence layer, a wide provider network and a stack your own engineers run.

Gateway or orchestrator: which one do you need?

  • A gateway processes the card payment and moves the funds. Most small businesses only need one.
  • An orchestrator connects several gateways and decides where each payment goes, with retries, fallbacks and one reporting view.
  • Token ownership is the hidden reason to orchestrate: if your stored cards live in a vault you control, you can move providers without asking customers to re-enter details.

If you're a small business with one market and one provider, orchestration is probably more than you need. My guide to payment processors for small businesses is the better starting point.

What to ask in an orchestration demo

  • Connections. Does it already connect to the providers and local payment methods you use in each market?
  • Routing rules. Can you route by country, card type or approval history, and retry failed payments on another provider?
  • Tokens. Who owns the stored card tokens, and can you export them if you leave?
  • Reconciliation. Does it match payouts from every provider back to orders automatically?
  • Fraud and disputes. Is fraud screening and dispute handling built in, or a separate tool?

Routing across providers changes your fraud picture too. My roundup of fraud detection software covers the tools that sit alongside it.

My plain advice on payment orchestration platforms

Only orchestrate when you have a reason: several markets, approval rates you can't fix with one provider, or a single point of failure you can't accept. Then shortlist on connections to your existing providers and on token ownership, because those decide how free you'll be later. Run a pilot on one market and compare approval rates before you move all traffic.

And keep your finance team close. Reconciliation across several providers is where orchestration either saves hours every week or creates them.

Frequently asked questions

What is payment orchestration?

It's a layer that connects several payment providers through one integration and routes each transaction to the best provider, with retries and fallbacks if a payment fails.

Is a payment orchestration platform the same as a payment gateway?

No. A gateway processes the payment. An orchestrator connects several gateways and decides which one handles each payment.

Who needs payment orchestration?

Businesses selling in several markets, using more than one provider, or needing a fallback if one provider fails. A small business with one provider usually doesn't.

Is there an open source payment orchestrator?

Yes. One platform here names an open source version you can deploy yourself, shown in the free plan column.

What does token ownership mean in payments?

It means your customers' stored card details sit in a vault you control, so you can switch providers without customers re-entering cards.
