NPS Survey Tools (2026): 8 Options for Three Different Jobs

NPS survey tools ask one question, how likely someone is to recommend you, then collect and track the answers. The right one depends on where you'll ask: inside your product, after a support ticket, or across the whole customer experience. Eight options follow, in no particular order, grouped by those three jobs.

Net Promoter Score looks simple, and the sum is. People answer from 0 to 10. Those who pick 9 or 10 are promoters, 0 to 6 are detractors, and 7 or 8 are passives. Take the share of detractors away from the share of promoters and you've got a score somewhere between minus 100 and 100.

Any survey tool could ask that. What you're choosing here is everything around it: when the question fires, where it appears, what happens to the answer and who sees it. Each entry below is based on the vendor's own site as of Nov 2026, and the order carries no meaning.

Advice before you shop: name your moment

Write down the one moment you want to ask, before you open a single vendor's site. After a support ticket closes? Thirty days after signup? After a delivery? That sentence chooses your tool for you, because each of these products is built around a particular moment. If you can't write it, you aren't ready for an NPS tool. You might be better off with a general survey builder and a few well-worded questions until you are.

Three jobs, three kinds of NPS tool

Inside your product. SatisMeter runs NPS, CSAT, CES and product-market-fit surveys for software products. Sleekplan offers NPS as one module of a wider feedback suite. Both make sense when your customers log in to something.

Inside your support desk. Simplesat and Nicereply are about the moment a conversation ends, and that's where CSAT usually lives alongside NPS. If your team already lives in help desk software, ask how each one connects to yours.

Across the whole customer experience. Retently names ecommerce and retail. AskNicely names service businesses and frontline staff. Survicate and Zonka Feedback cover several channels and pull themes from responses. These suit you when NPS is a programme with an owner and not just a question.

Eight NPS options, listed by name

AskNicely

Best for: Service businesses measuring NPS and CSAT while motivating frontline teams, with reputation management also covered on its site.

Nicereply

Best for: Support teams who want more responses through one-click CSAT, CES and NPS surveys, including the smiley-style CSAT its site describes.

Retently

Best for: Ecommerce and retail brands, the audience its site names, collecting NPS, CSAT and CES across touchpoints and using AI to turn responses into actions.

SatisMeter

Best for: Software companies running NPS, CSAT, CES and product-market-fit surveys for their products, with each listed as its own survey type.

Simplesat

Best for: Helpdesk users on Zendesk, Gladly or Gorgias who want CSAT, NPS and CES inside those tools; its site says feedback routes automatically to the right person.

Sleekplan

Best for: Product teams wanting an NPS and CSAT module for in-the-moment pulse checks, next to feedback boards, a roadmap and a changelog.

Survicate

Best for: Teams surveying customers across channels, with automated feedback flows, a research hub and analytics that find themes in responses.

A score on its own won't tell you why

An NPS score is one number from one question. On its own, it can't tell you why somebody gave you a 3. That's why the open comment box matters more than the dashboard: 'why did you give that score?' is where you'll find the thing you can fix.

Here's what buyers miss. Response rate and timing can move your score even when your product hasn't changed. Ask right after a great support call and you'll get a different answer from the same person asked in the middle of a billing problem. Only hearing from your happiest customers will flatter the result as well, and changing channel can shift it without anything improving.

So keep three things steady if you want a trend you can trust: the same moment, the same channel and the same wording. Then look at how many people answered as well as what they said.

What to look for in the survey itself

  • A follow-up comment that appears straight after the number.
  • Triggers tied to an event, such as a closed ticket, and not a calendar date you'll forget.
  • A limit on how often one person gets asked, so nobody's surveyed to death.
  • Routing, so an angry reply reaches a person who can do something the same day.
  • Results you can split by customer type, as an average across everybody hides a lot.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good NPS score?

There's no single answer, as scores vary by industry, channel and timing. The most useful comparison is your own score over time, measured at the same moment in the same way.

How is NPS different from CSAT and CES?

NPS asks whether someone would recommend you. CSAT asks how satisfied they were with something specific, and CES asks how easy it was. Many of the tools here offer all three.

When should I send an NPS survey?

Choose a moment when the customer has had enough experience to judge you, and keep it the same each time. Moving the moment around can move your score with no real change behind it.

Should I add a follow-up question to NPS?

Yes. The number tells you how many people are unhappy and the comment tells you why. Without that follow-up, you're left guessing what to fix.

Can I just run NPS in a general survey tool?

You can, and for an occasional survey it's fine. A dedicated tool earns its place when you want event-based triggers, follow-up routing and a trend tracked over time.
