The best marketing attribution software shows which ads, channels and campaigns lead to sales or leads, so you can put more effort into what works. Ecommerce tools focus on ad tracking and revenue, while B2B platforms follow longer customer journeys across accounts and deals. Eleven options follow in no particular order.
Every ad platform claims credit for the same sale, and they can't all be right. Meta says it was Meta, Google says it was Google, and your email tool says it was the newsletter. Attribution software is how you get one honest view instead of three flattering ones.
The eleven tools below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the tool's own website, read this week. If you're starting from scratch, my attribution cheat sheet explains the main models in plain English.
Marketing attribution software side by side
In the free plan column, Yes means the tool's own site names a free plan, a free account, a free allowance or an open source version. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to start for free.

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
The UK consent rule for ad measurement
Attribution depends on tracking, and in the UK that brings consent rules with it. The ICO's guidance on storage and access technologies says you must get consent when you use them for online advertising, including ad measurement and performance. It also says the statistical purposes exception doesn't cover connecting a visitor ID to purchases that are shared with advertising partners.
In plain terms, the tracking that feeds conversions back to your ad platforms needs consent on UK websites. Before you switch an attribution tool on, check how it collects data, make sure your cookie banner covers it, and see my guide to visitor consent for analytics tags for the basics.
Multi-touch attribution, mix modelling and incrementality
Multi-touch attribution follows individual journeys and shares credit across the ads and channels someone touched. Marketing mix modelling looks at the bigger picture, using totals over time to estimate what each channel contributes. Incrementality testing asks a sharper question: would the sale have happened anyway?
Smaller businesses usually start with multi-touch attribution and good tracking, and that's fine. Brands with several channels and more history add mix modelling and testing once they have the data to support them.
Questions to ask before you choose attribution software
- Does it connect to every ad platform and store I use?
- Does it track calls, forms and chats, not just online sales?
- How does it handle consent and privacy rules?
- Can it send cleaner conversion data back to ad platforms?
- Will my team understand the reports it produces?
- Does it suit ecommerce or B2B journeys better?
Signs your attribution data can't be trusted
- Every platform claims the same sale. You need one source of truth.
- UTM tags are inconsistent. Agree a naming pattern.
- Offline sales are invisible. Track calls and forms too.
- Consent isn't set up. Fix it before you rely on the numbers.
Do you make marketing attribution software? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice on choosing marketing attribution software
Fix your tracking before you buy anything. Consistent UTM tags, a working consent banner and one agreed definition of a conversion will improve your numbers more than any dashboard. My UTM campaign naming template is a good first step.
Then choose the tool that matches how your customers buy. A quick online checkout needs fast ad tracking, while a long B2B sale needs account journeys and CRM data. And keep a little healthy doubt: attribution is an estimate, so use it to compare options, not to settle every argument. It won't be perfect, and it doesn't need to be.
Frequently asked questions
What is marketing attribution software?
Marketing attribution software tracks the ads, channels and touchpoints that lead to a sale or a lead, and shows how much credit each one deserves.
Are there free marketing attribution tools?
A few tools name a free version, and many offer trials. The free plan column above shows what each tool's own site says.
Do I need consent for attribution tracking in the UK?
The ICO says storage and access technologies used for online advertising, including ad measurement and performance, need consent.
What's the difference between attribution and mix modelling?
Attribution follows individual journeys. Marketing mix modelling uses totals over time to estimate what each channel contributes.
Is the analytics tool I already have enough?
For many small businesses it's a fine starting point. Dedicated tools help when you run several ad channels or long sales cycles.
Can attribution software track phone calls?
Some tools in this list track calls, forms and live chats through to revenue in your CRM.
