The Firefox themes with the most daily users on Mozilla's add-ons site are a mix of Mozilla's own colourway themes and designs by independent artists, several of them animated. A theme changes how the browser looks, not what it does. Ten follow in no particular order, with daily users, rating counts and last updated dates as of Oct 2026.
A Firefox theme recolours your toolbar, tabs and menus, and some put artwork or a moving background behind them. You add them from Mozilla's own add-ons site, and the ten here are the ones with the most daily users there. Three come from Firefox itself, and the other seven are by independent creators.
They're listed alphabetically and in no particular order. Each description is a plain version of the theme's own listing, and none of them is a recommendation on its own. If it's dark mode you're after, my guide on how to switch Gmail to dark mode does the same job for your inbox.
How these Firefox themes were picked
Every number on this page comes from the Mozilla Firefox Add-ons site (addons.mozilla.org): daily users, average rating, rating count and last updated date, all as of Oct 2026. The ten are the themes with the most daily users there. Mozilla counts daily users, not downloads, so that's the word I've used. The free plan column says Not stated because none of these listings names a plan, which is what the column records.

Biscuit
Best for: Trying a simple theme from an independent creator whose listing says little, so you judge it on looks alone (25,910 daily users as of Oct 2026).
Black

Visionary Balanced
Best for: Anyone drawn to Mozilla's colourways who likes the version written for people who question the status quo (195,337 daily users as of Oct 2026).
Mozilla's colourways or an independent artist's theme
Three of the ten are colourway themes offered by Firefox, Mozilla's own set of colour schemes with names that describe a personality rather than a colour. The other seven are by independent creators, and four of those move: three say Animated in their names and one describes animated stars on a dark background.
That split matters more than it looks. A colourway is a quiet change of colour. An artist's theme is a piece of artwork across the top of your screen, and an animated one never sits still, so think about how you'll feel about it after a week of looking at it all day.

Daily users and ratings can tell different stories
Ash, offered by Firefox, shows 281,449 daily users but a 1.6 average from just 37 ratings. Dark space, an animated theme from an independent artist, shows 98,442 daily users and a 4.9 average from 2,078 ratings. All as of Oct 2026.
So a big daily-user count doesn't tell you people love a theme, and a small rating count can swing on a handful of opinions. Read both numbers together, then trust the preview.
The dates are worth a look too. Purple Night Theme was last updated on August 5, 2020, and Praise the sun (animated) on June 7, 2021, and both still sit in this top ten. A theme is mostly colours and images, so it doesn't need frequent updates the way an extension might, but check how it looks in your own Firefox before you keep it.
Which kind of Firefox theme for which mood
- You want something calm and plain: pick a colourway offered by Firefox, or a single dark colour from an independent creator.
- You want something to smile at: pick an animated theme, and switch it off if the movement starts to distract you.
- You love a film or a game: pick a fan-made theme whose listing credits the artwork it uses.
- You work late: pick a dark theme with a night palette, and pair it with dark mode in the sites you use most.
Adding, switching and removing a Firefox theme
- Open the theme's page on Mozilla's add-ons site in Firefox and add it. It applies straight away.
- Open Add-ons and themes from the Firefox menu to see every theme you've added. Only one is active at a time.
- Switch between them there, or go back to the default system theme whenever you like.
- Remove the ones you don't use, so the list stays short and easy to manage.
A theme only changes the look. If what you want is more privacy rather than a new colour, my guide on whether Tor Browser is safe to use is the better read.

My plain advice on choosing a Firefox theme
Start with how much you want to notice it. If you'd rather forget it's there, stay with a colourway or a single dark colour. If you want a bit of joy every time you open the browser, try an animated theme for a few days. Either way, look at the rating count as well as the average, and remember it's a two-click change, so there's no harm in trying a few.
I'd also check the last updated date. An old date isn't a reason to skip a theme, but if it looks off in your Firefox, there's a newer one on this list that won't.

Frequently asked questions
What are Firefox themes?
They're add-ons that change the colours, and sometimes the background artwork, of Firefox's toolbar, tabs and menus. They don't change what the browser does.
Where do Firefox themes come from?
From Mozilla's add-ons site. Some are Mozilla's own colourway themes offered by Firefox, and the rest are made by independent artists.
What does daily users mean on a Firefox theme?
It's the count Mozilla's add-ons site shows for each theme. It isn't a download total, so it's a different measure from the download numbers you see on other stores.
Can I use more than one Firefox theme at once?
No. You can add as many as you like, but only one is active at a time. Switch between them in Add-ons and themes.
Are animated Firefox themes a good idea?
They're great fun if you like movement on screen. If you find it distracting, switch to a static theme in two clicks.
