Concrete estimating software measures slabs, footings, walls and foundations from plans or site drawings, then turns those quantities into an estimate and a bid. Many tools now use AI to speed up the takeoff. Some are built for flatwork contractors, others for heavy civil work. Ten options follow, in no particular order.
Concrete estimating is unforgiving. Get the volume wrong and you're either short on the pour or paying for a truck you didn't need, and that's before rebar, formwork and finishing are counted.
The tools below help with the measuring and the maths: digital takeoff from PDF plans, AI that spots repetitive elements, site drawing apps and estimating platforms for bigger civil jobs. They're listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and each description comes from the tool's own website, read this week. When the bid is won, my guide on what project management involves in construction covers the next stage.
Concrete estimating tools side by side
I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the site names the tool, an account or a plan or version of it as free. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to start, so check the tool's own page before you sign up.

Ten concrete estimating tools to try
ArcSite
Best for: Contractors who want quick, reliable estimates from their own site drawings, on Windows, Android, Mac or iOS.
Beam AI
Best for: Estimators who want AI to produce takeoffs and ready-to-use quantities, with a specialist setting up the workflow for their trade.
Estimating Edge
Best for: Specialty contractors who want professional-grade concrete takeoff and estimating, plus other trades such as drywall, in one package.
Exayard
Best for: Small estimating teams that want to drag in PDF, image or CAD plans and get AI takeoffs with automatic scale detection.
HCSS
Best for: Heavy civil and infrastructure contractors who want concrete estimating from a company focused on that kind of construction.
Kreo
Best for: Slab and foundation estimators who want to measure slabs, columns, footings and walls quickly and turn them into estimates.
PlanSwift
Best for: Estimators who want footings, slabs and formwork measured in one pass, with AI help on the repetitive concrete measurements.
Scope Takeoff
Best for: Concrete and masonry subcontractors who want estimating built around their trade rather than a general contractor's workflow.
Square Takeoff
Best for: Contractors and builders who want to measure digital blueprints online in minutes, on Windows or Mac, without installing heavy software.
STACK
Best for: Teams that want cloud takeoff from footings to foundations, AI takeoff tools and proposals, starting with a free account.
Which tool matches the work you bid
- Driveways, patios and site sketches: ArcSite.
- Heavy civil and infrastructure: HCSS.
- Takeoffs from any plan format: Exayard.
- Starting with a free account: STACK.
- Concrete and masonry subcontractors: Scope Takeoff.
Silica dust controls belong in the bid
OSHA says its respirable crystalline silica standard for construction requires employers to limit worker exposure and take other steps to protect workers. Employers can follow the control methods in the standard's Table 1 or measure exposure and choose their own controls, and OSHA notes that applying water to a saw blade when cutting materials such as concrete substantially reduces the dust created.
Cutting, grinding and drilling concrete all create silica dust, so the equipment, water and time for dust control should be in the estimate from the start. If you work outside the US, check the equivalent rules where you are before you quote the job.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Quantities every concrete takeoff needs
- Volume for slabs, footings, walls and columns.
- Reinforcement: rebar, mesh and accessories.
- Formwork areas and the number of reuses.
- Sub-base, membranes and insulation.
- Finishing, curing and any saw cutting.
Plan takeoff, site drawing apps and civil estimating
Plan takeoff tools work from PDF or CAD drawings. You trace or let AI detect elements, and the software calculates areas and volumes. They suit contractors who bid from drawings on commercial and new-build work.
Site drawing apps suit residential flatwork, where you sketch the driveway or patio on a tablet on site and quote from that. Civil estimating platforms are heavier, built for large jobs with many line items and crews. Pick the type that matches where your measurements come from.
The painting estimating software comparison is a useful follow-up.
Concrete estimating mistakes to avoid
- Forgetting waste. Add a sensible allowance for spillage and over-dig.
- Ignoring slab thickness changes. Thickened edges add up.
- Missing pump or access needs. They change the job plan.
- Skipping weather and curing time. Schedules slip without them.
Another comparison readers ask for is in the drywall estimating software comparison.
Signs your takeoffs are under control
- Pours arrive with the right volume.
- Bids go out faster than before.
- Estimators check results rather than measure from scratch.
- Fewer surprises on site.
Do you make concrete takeoff or estimating software? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice on concrete estimating software
Choose the tool that matches where your numbers start. If you bid from drawings, a takeoff tool with AI detection will save the most time. If you quote driveways and patios on site, a drawing app that builds the estimate as you sketch is the better fit. For large civil work, look at platforms built for that scale.
Test any new tool on a past job where you know the final quantities, and compare. When the numbers match, you'll trust it on live bids. For winning more of those bids in the first place, my guide to AI lead generation for construction firms is a good companion.
Frequently asked questions
What is concrete estimating software?
Software that measures concrete elements from plans or drawings and turns the quantities into an estimate and bid.
Is there free concrete estimating software?
At least one tool on this list names a free account, and several offer a trial, so check the table.
Can AI do a concrete takeoff?
Yes, several tools here use AI to detect and measure elements on plans, though you should check the results.
What's the difference between takeoff and estimating?
Takeoff measures quantities, while estimating applies labour, materials and rates to those quantities to build the bid.
Can I estimate a driveway on a tablet?
Yes, site drawing apps let you sketch the area on a tablet and quote from the drawing.
Is concrete estimating software only for big contractors?
No. Several tools on this list are aimed at small and mid-sized concrete contractors.
