A voice isolator uses AI to separate a voice from everything around it, whether that's traffic, wind and room echo in a recording or the music behind a singer. Speech tools clean up interviews and videos, while vocal tools split songs. Choose by whether you're fixing speech or splitting music. Ten options follow, in no particular order.
A great interview recorded in a noisy cafe used to be a lost cause. AI voice isolation can now lift the speech out and leave most of the clatter behind, often in a single click.
The ten tools below cover speech clean-up, plugins for editors and vocal isolation for songs. They're listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the vendor's own website, read this week. If you want the music without the singer, my guide to removing vocals from a song with AI for free covers that side.
AI voice isolators at a glance
I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the site says the tool, or a plan or version of it, is free. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to start, so check the vendor's page before you sign up.

Your iPhone can isolate your voice before you record
Apple Support says Voice Isolation blocks ambient noise to make your voice clearer. It works on FaceTime and some third-party app calls from iOS 15, on phone calls from iOS 16.4, and in audio or video recording apps such as Voice Memos from iOS 26.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
If you record voice notes, interviews or social videos on an iPhone, switch on Voice Isolation first. A cleaner recording means the AI tool has less to fix, and less fixing means fewer of the watery, robotic artefacts heavy clean-up can leave behind.
How to get a clean result
- Record as close to the microphone as you can.
- Run the isolator once, then listen on headphones.
- Turn the strength down if the voice sounds thin or metallic.
- Keep the original file in case you need to start again.
- Check the start and end of the clip, where artefacts often hide.
What a voice isolator can't fix
Isolation removes what isn't the voice. It can't add back detail that was never recorded. A voice that clipped because the level was too high, or one that was drowned out by a louder speaker, will still sound damaged after processing.
Two people talking over each other is also hard, because both are voices. For interviews, a separate microphone for each person makes every tool on this list work better. If your problem is echo on calls, my notes on why webinar audio keeps echoing may solve it at the source.
Signs you've over-cleaned a recording
- The voice sounds underwater. Reduce the strength.
- Words lose their endings. Try a different tool.
- Breaths vanish entirely. It sounds unnatural, so ease off.
- Silence feels too silent. Add a little room tone back.
Do you make an AI voice isolator? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice on voice isolation
Take one bad recording, the noisiest you have, and run it through three of these tools. Listen to each result on headphones and on your phone speaker. The one that keeps the voice natural, not just quiet, is the one to use.
Then fix the recording habit too. A better microphone position saves more time than any clean-up tool.
Frequently asked questions
What is a voice isolator?
It's an AI tool that separates a voice from background noise, room echo or music, so the speech or vocal can be used on its own.
Is a voice isolator the same as a vocal remover?
They're two sides of one job. A voice isolator keeps the voice, a vocal remover keeps the music. Several tools on this list do both.
Can I isolate a voice for free?
Yes. Several tools on this list say on their own pages that a free tool or free plan is available.
Why does my voice sound robotic after isolation?
The tool removed too much. Lower the strength, or record closer to the microphone next time.
Can I use voice isolation on an iPhone?
Yes. Apple Support says Voice Isolation works in recording apps such as Voice Memos from iOS 26, as well as on calls.
Can AI separate two people talking at once?
Not reliably. Both are voices, so give each speaker their own microphone where you can.
