An AI glasses try-on app uses your phone camera to place frames on your face, either live with augmented reality or as a generated photo. Some also measure your face or suggest shapes that suit you. Ten apps follow in no particular order, from big eyewear stores to small, independent try-on tools.
Buying glasses online saves a trip to the shops, but it's a gamble. Frames that look perfect on a model can look completely different on your face, and returns are a hassle when there's a prescription involved. Try-on apps take most of the guesswork out.
The ten apps below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the app's own App Store listing, read this week. Four are eyewear shops with try-on built in, and the rest are standalone try-on apps that work with frames from anywhere. If you're curious about wearing AI rather than just shopping with it, my guide on how to use Meta AI glasses covers the smart glasses side.
AI glasses try-on apps compared
I checked the free plan column on each app's own App Store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, a free version, a free account or free use. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, so check the tool's own site before you sign up.

Which try-on app for which shopper

- You'd rather not register: VirTry.

Your face is data, so check the settings
A try-on app works by scanning your face, and that scan is personal information. The Information Commissioner's Office has specific guidance on biometric recognition, which treats biometric data as personal information about someone's physical, physiological or behavioural characteristics that results from specific technical processing, and explains when it becomes special category data.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
You don't need to read the whole thing. Before you start, check what the app keeps, whether photos are saved to your account, and switch off anything you don't need.
Glasses and official photos have their own rules, covered in passport photo apps.
Getting a try-on you can trust
- Use even, front-facing light so the frames sit naturally.
- Take off your current glasses before you start the scan.
- Look at the frames from the side as well as the front.
- Check the frame width against a pair you already own and like.
- Screenshot your shortlist and compare the frames side by side the next day.

What a try-on can't tell you
A virtual try-on shows you the look, not the fit. It can't tell you whether the arms will press behind your ears or the bridge will slip down your nose. And it doesn't replace an eye test. Get your prescription checked by an optician, then use the app to choose the style.
Do you make AI glasses try-on apps or eyewear tools? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice on using a glasses try-on app
Use a standalone try-on app if you want to compare frames from different shops, and a store app if you've already found a brand you like. Check the privacy settings before your first scan, look at the frames from more than one angle, and keep your eye test with a real optician.
If you run an eyewear shop yourself, my piece on the eyewear website features worth adopting looks at try-on from the seller's side.

Frequently asked questions
What is an AI glasses try-on app?
It's an app that uses your phone camera to show glasses on your face, live with augmented reality or as a generated photo, before you buy.
Are virtual glasses try-on apps accurate?
They're good for judging style and size on your face, but they can't show how the frames will feel, so check the measurements too.
Do glasses try-on apps store my face?
Some do and some don't. The ICO treats biometric data as personal information, so read what each app keeps before your first scan.
Can I try on glasses from any shop?
Some apps here work with frames from any eyewear website, while store apps only show their own frames.
Is there a free glasses try-on app?
A couple of apps here name free features on their own listing, and most store apps are free to download, so check the free plan column.
