An AI family photo generator turns photos you already have into family portraits, group shots or keepsakes, without booking a photographer. Some combine several people into one picture, some restore and colourise old photos, and some imagine baby or future looks. Nine apps follow, in no particular order.
Getting the whole family into one good photo is famously hard. Someone's missing, someone blinked, or the relatives live hundreds of miles apart. AI apps now offer a workaround, building a portrait from photos you already have.
The nine apps below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the app's own App Store listing, read this week. If you'd like to write your own prompts instead, my guide to creating family photo prompts with AI tools shows how.
Family photo apps side by side
I checked the free plan column on each app's own App Store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the listing names a free app, a free version, a free tier or free content. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the listing I read named neither, even where there's a download button, so check the app's own page before you subscribe.

Children's faces and data
These apps work by analysing faces, and often children's faces. Apple Developer guidance on App Privacy Details says developers must disclose the data they and their third-party partners collect, and that developers are responsible for keeping those answers accurate and up to date.
In other words, the privacy label on each listing is the developer's own description. Read it, check whether photos are linked to you or used for tracking, and look for a way to delete your uploads before you add pictures of your children.

Tips for natural-looking family portraits
- Use clear, well-lit photos with faces looking towards the camera.
- Pick photos taken at similar angles, so people look natural together.
- Upload only the people you want in the final picture.
- Try a few versions and keep the one that looks most like your family.
- Check hands, ears and backgrounds, where AI mistakes tend to hide.

Keepsakes, not records
An AI family portrait is a lovely keepsake, but it isn't a photo of a real moment. If you share it, it's kind to say it was made with AI, especially when it includes someone who has passed away or a child who wasn't born yet.
And keep the originals. The real photos, blinks and all, are the ones your family will care about most in years to come.
If you're making a gift, such as a framed print for a grandparent, print a small test first. AI images can look sharp on a phone screen and soft on paper, so check the detail at the size you'll print before you order a big frame.

My plain advice on AI family photo generators
Start with the job you need done, whether that's a group shot, a restored print or a fun baby portrait, and pick the app built for it. Read the privacy label before you upload anyone's face, especially a child's. And treat the result as a keepsake, not a replacement for the real photos.
For editing the pictures you already have, my roundup of AI photo editors covers more general tools.
