An AI age progression tool takes a photo of a face and generates an older, or sometimes younger, version of it. Some give you a full timeline of decades, some add fun filters and stickers, and a few sit inside bigger photo editors. Ten tools follow, in no particular order.
Face aging apps are mostly for fun: seeing your future self, swapping pictures with friends or making age-change content for social media. The results are a guess based on general patterns, not a prediction of how any one person will age.
The ten apps below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and each description comes from the app's own App Store listing, read this week. If you'd like more control over the look, my guide to family photo prompts for AI tools covers prompt-based edits.
AI age progression tools at a glance
I checked the free plan column on each app's own App Store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, a free tool, a free version or a free tier. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, even where there's a try-free button, so check the provider's own page before you sign up.

Check the privacy label before you upload a face
A face photo is personal data, and some of these apps ask for photos of friends and partners as well as you. Apple's developer guidance says app makers must identify the data they or their third-party partners collect for the App Store privacy details, and that they're responsible for keeping those answers accurate and up to date.
In other words, the privacy label is the developer's own answer. Read it, then read the app's privacy policy for how long photos are kept and whether they're used to train models, and don't upload anyone's face without asking them first.
What these apps can and can't tell you
- They can give you a plausible picture of an older face for fun or content.
- They can't predict your health, lifestyle or how you'll age in reality.
- They vary a lot by photo, so good light and a straight-on face give the most believable result.
Getting a believable result
- Use a sharp, front-facing photo in soft, even light.
- Take off glasses and hats, and keep hair away from the face.
- Try two or three apps on the same photo and compare.
- Save the best version and delete the rest from the app if it lets you.
Do you make face editing, AI photo or avatar apps? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice on AI age progression apps
Treat these apps as entertainment, pick one whose privacy policy you're comfortable with, and only upload faces of people who've said yes. If you want a realistic look, a timeline-style app with a clear front-on photo gives the most believable result.
Delete photos from the app when you're done, if it lets you. For other ways to edit portraits with AI, my roundup of AI photo editors is a good next stop.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI age progression app?
It depends on what you want: a timeline app suits a realistic look, while filter apps suit quick fun and sharing.
Are AI face aging apps free?
Some name a free app or free age changer on their listing, while others offer a trial, so check the free plan column.
How accurate are AI age progression apps?
They're a guess based on general patterns, not a prediction of how a particular person will age.
Are face aging apps safe to use?
Read the App Store privacy label and the app's privacy policy first, since the label is the developer's own answer about the data it collects.
Can I see what I looked like as a child?
Yes. Some apps here show younger versions as well as older ones.
How do I get the best result from a face aging app?
Use a sharp, front-facing photo in even light, without glasses or a hat, and try more than one app.
