Best AI Chrome Extensions (2026): 11 AI Tools for Your Browser

The best AI Chrome extensions bring AI help to the web pages, inboxes and documents you already use, without copying and pasting into a separate chatbot. Some focus on writing, some summarise videos and pages, and some act as agents that complete tasks for you. Eleven options follow in no particular order.

Switching between a chatbot tab and the page you're working on gets old quickly. Copy, paste, prompt, copy back, fix the formatting. A good AI extension cuts that loop down to a click, right where the work is happening.

The eleven extensions below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the tool's own website, read this week. If you want AI from Google itself, my guide on how to use Gemini in Chrome shows what's built in.

AI Chrome extensions at a glance

I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the site names a free plan, a free version, a free tier or an open source version. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to start for free, so check the vendor's page before you sign up.

  • Ready-made prompts for marketing: AIPRM.
  • Automating repetitive web tasks: HARPA AI.

What Chrome's rules say about your data

The Chrome Web Store's Limited Use policy says extensions may only collect, use or transmit user data that's necessary for the extension's disclosed single purpose. It also limits when that data can be passed to third parties.

That matters because AI extensions often ask to read every page you visit. Before you install one, read its permissions and privacy details, and be wary of any extension whose stated purpose doesn't match what it asks to access.

Writing assistants versus browser agents

Writing assistants help with the words in front of you: grammar, tone, rewording and replies. They're the easiest place to start, because the results are easy to check before you send anything.

Browser agents can read pages, fill in forms and complete multi-step tasks. They save more time when they work, but they need more access and more supervision, so start them on low-risk jobs.

Questions to ask before you install an AI extension

  1. Which permissions does it ask for?
  2. Which AI models does it use?
  3. Does it work on the sites where I spend most time?
  4. Can I turn it off on sensitive sites like online banking?
  5. Does it store my prompts and page content?
  6. Is there a free allowance to give it a fair try?

Signs an AI extension would save you time

  • You copy text into a chatbot all day. Bring AI to the page.
  • Long videos eat your lunch break. Read a summary first.
  • Meeting notes take an hour afterwards. Capture them live.
  • You rewrite the same kind of email daily. Get a first draft.

Do you make an AI extension or browser tool? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My plain advice on choosing an AI Chrome extension

Install one extension at a time and use it for a week before adding another. Several AI sidebars fighting for the same corner of every page slow you down, and you'll quickly forget which one does what.

And switch extensions off on banking, health and client portals. If you're tidying up your browser more generally, my roundup of browser extensions to increase productivity has non-AI options worth keeping.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI Chrome extension?

An AI Chrome extension adds AI features, such as writing help, summaries or chat, to the web pages you visit in the Chrome browser.

Are AI Chrome extensions free?

Several offer free versions or daily free allowances, with bigger plans for heavier use. The free plan column above shows what each tool's own site says.

Are AI Chrome extensions safe?

Many are, but they can read the pages you visit. Check permissions and privacy details, and turn them off on sensitive sites.

Can AI extensions summarise YouTube videos?

Yes. Some extensions summarise videos, articles and PDFs so you can get the main points quickly.

Do AI extensions work in other browsers?

Many work in other Chromium-based browsers such as Edge, and some offer versions for other browsers too.

Will an AI extension slow my browser down?

Most are light, but several running at once can. Keep only the ones you use regularly.
