Best AI Browser (2026): 9 Browsers Compared

The best AI browser is one whose assistant helps with the way you browse, whether that's summarising pages, working across tabs or carrying out tasks for you, without asking for more access than you're comfortable giving. Most have a free version. These nine are listed in no particular order, with a safety note below.

An AI browser does more than add a chat box. Some read the page you're on and answer questions about it, some work across all your tabs, and some will click, fill in forms and run tasks while you get on with something else. That last group is the most useful and the one that needs the most care.

Here are nine browsers with built-in AI, sorted alphabetically and in no particular order, from privacy-focused browsers with an assistant to agentic browsers built to act for you. Each description comes from the maker's own website, re-checked today. If you've heard about Perplexity's browser, my explainer on Perplexity's Comet browser covers it separately.

The prompt injection warning from Britain's cyber security centre

Here's the part most round-ups skip. The UK's National Cyber Security Centre, the NCSC, has written about prompt injection, and its point is calm but important. It says current large language models don't enforce a security boundary between instructions and data inside a prompt. It also notes that prompt injection sits at the top of OWASP's list of attacks to consider for generative AI applications, and that treating it like SQL injection can undermine the steps people take to reduce it.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

What that means for an AI browser: when the assistant reads a web page, text on that page can try to steer it, and the model can't always tell your request apart from the page's content. That's not a reason to avoid AI browsers. It's a reason to be choosy about which logged-in accounts, payments and actions you let an agent handle, and to keep an eye on what it does.

Assistant, tab reader or agent?

  • Sidebar assistant: answers questions and summarises the page you're on, the gentlest place to start.
  • Tab reader: works across several open tabs to compare, brief or draft, handy on research-heavy days.
  • Agent: clicks, types and completes tasks for you, the biggest time saver and the one to supervise.

Setting up an AI browser safely, step by step

  1. Install it alongside your current browser rather than replacing it on day one.
  2. Read the privacy settings and turn off anything you're not comfortable sharing.
  3. Try the assistant on public pages first, such as news articles and product pages.
  4. Keep banking, payroll and admin accounts in a separate browser or profile at first.
  5. When you try agent features, watch the first few tasks from start to finish.
  6. Check the record of what the agent did before you trust it with repeat jobs.

Questions to ask any AI browser maker

  • Where is my browsing data processed: on my device or in the cloud?
  • Can I stop the agent before it submits a form or makes a purchase?
  • Which accounts can it use, and can I limit them?
  • Does it keep a log of the actions it took?

If you're thinking about agents more broadly, my checklist for defending agents against prompt injection goes into more detail for business use.

Do you make AI browsers or browser extensions with AI? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My calm advice on choosing an AI browser

If you mostly want summaries and quick answers, start with a familiar style of browser that has an assistant built in; you'll get most of the benefit with very little change. If your day is spent across dozens of tabs, try a browser built to read across them. If you want tasks done for you, try an agentic browser on low-stakes jobs first, such as research or drafting, before it goes anywhere near your inbox or accounts.

Keep your current browser installed while you experiment, and don't sign the new one into everything at once. Add accounts one at a time, once you've seen how the assistant behaves.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI browser?

A web browser with an AI assistant built in. Depending on the browser, it can summarise pages, answer questions across tabs or carry out tasks for you.

Are AI browsers free?

Most of the browsers on this list are free to download, and several add a subscription or credits for heavier AI use.

Are AI browsers safe?

They can be used safely with care. The NCSC says language models don't enforce a boundary between instructions and data, so limit which accounts and actions an agent can use.

What is prompt injection?

It's when text the AI reads, such as hidden words on a web page, tries to steer what the AI does. The NCSC treats it as a serious problem that's hard to solve.

Should I replace my current browser with an AI browser?

Not straight away. Run it alongside your current browser for a few weeks and move over gradually if it earns its place.

Do AI browsers work on Windows and Mac?

Many do, and some started on one system first. Check the maker's download page for your computer before you plan around one.
