Amazon Seller in Nigeria: Is It Open to You? (2026)

Amazon doesn't list Nigeria among the 27 countries on its Global Selling page, and I found no Amazon store for Nigeria. According to Amazon's registration guide, a seller picks the country where the business is registered, needs ID, proof of address and an international card, and can be paid to a bank outside the US. Check that Nigeria is accepted before you pay anyone.

Searching for Amazon seller Nigeria brings up a lot of confident courses, so I want to give you the cautious version first. I've read Amazon's Global Selling page and its seller registration guide. Neither one shows a Nigerian Amazon store, and neither one names Nigeria as a country where you can register. Here's what they do say, and how to avoid getting caught out.

Nigeria isn't on Amazon's list of countries

Amazon's Global Selling page has a list called explore selling on Amazon around the world. It names 27 countries: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the UAE, the UK, the US and Vietnam. Nigeria isn't one of them.

That doesn't prove a Nigerian can't open an account, because the page doesn't say that the list decides where sellers can register. It does mean there's no Amazon.ng to sell on, and that anyone telling you there is should show you the link on amazon.com.

How Amazon decides which country your business is in

Amazon's registration guide asks you to select the country where your business is registered for the business address. If you operate as an individual, or your business isn't incorporated, you select the country where you do business. It doesn't name the countries it accepts for this step, and I couldn't confirm Nigeria from its pages.

So the honest position is this: nobody outside Amazon can promise you that a Nigerian address will be accepted. If you start the sign-up and the country isn't offered, that's your answer. Don't pay a stranger to work around it.

Which Amazon store a Nigerian business would sell on

Amazon explains that a sell.amazon.com account covers the US, Canada, Mexico and Brazil, and that separate accounts exist for Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East and North Africa. So any route from Nigeria would mean selling into one of those stores, with shipping, customs and tax rules of that country to deal with. That's a lot of moving parts for a first business.

What I checkedWhat Amazon says
Nigeria on the Global Selling listNot listed among the 27 countries
Business address countryWhere the business is registered, or where you do business
US bank accountNot required
Receiving proceedsBank account outside the US, in your name or your business's name
Credit cardInternationally chargeable, not necessarily in your name
DocumentsGovernment ID and proof of address from the last 180 days
Verification timeUsually three business days or less

Getting paid outside the US

This part is helpful. Amazon's guide says a US bank account isn't required. You can use the Amazon Currency Converter to receive sales proceeds in a bank account outside the US, as long as it's in your name or your business's name. Proceeds are converted to the relevant currency, and Amazon refers sellers to a list of countries, regions and currencies it supports for disbursement.

I couldn't confirm from Amazon's own pages whether payment in naira to a Nigerian bank is on that list. The naira is divided into 100 kobo, but that tells you nothing about Amazon's support. Check the list inside your seller account and ask your bank before you build a plan around it. For other ways to receive foreign money, my guides on Wise in Nigeria and Payoneer in Nigeria explain what those services say.

ID, address proof and the card

Amazon asks for a government-issued ID and proof of residential business address dated within the last 180 days, such as a bank or credit card statement. It also needs an internationally chargeable credit card from a short list of networks: American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB, MasterCard or Visa. The card doesn't need to be under your name or your business's name.

Ask your bank whether your card can be charged internationally before you apply. Identity verification is by photo of your face and ID, or by a video call with an Amazon associate, and it usually takes three business days or less.

If Amazon doesn't fit, what else can you do

Writers have a separate route: Amazon KDP in Nigeria pays authors in a way that doesn't need a seller account. Online card payments for your own shop are a different question, which my guide on PayPal in Nigeria answers. And sellers who serve Nigerian customers may find local online shops easier than a foreign store, though I haven't researched those here.

Scams that use Amazon's name

  • Don't pay for an Amazon account that someone else has already set up. Amazon requires your own ID and verification.
  • Don't share your passport, bank details or card number with an agent.
  • Treat any course that promises Amazon income from Nigeria with caution, and ask where Amazon's own pages say it works.

So, can you sell on Amazon from Nigeria?

I can't say yes. Amazon doesn't list Nigeria on its Global Selling countries, and its registration guide doesn't name the countries it accepts. What it does say is useful: you don't need a US bank account, and you need ID, address proof and an international card. Try the official sign-up yourself and let the country list answer the question.
