The marketing apps that matter most on a BigCommerce store cover four jobs: email and SMS, growing your list on the storefront, collecting reviews and running loyalty. Before choosing, check how each one connects, whether you install it yourself or the vendor sets it up, and which store data it syncs, such as customers, orders and carts.
"Works with BigCommerce" sounds like one promise, but on vendor pages it means at least three different things, and the difference decides how much of your own time the setup takes and what data you get back.
I've grouped ten marketing apps by the job they do on a BigCommerce store and noted how each one connects. They're taken from each vendor's own BigCommerce page or site, they're in no particular order, and vendor claims are marked as theirs.
Three ways a tool can connect to your store
- An app you install yourself. One email platform here walks you through adding it from the Apps area of your BigCommerce control panel. You're in charge of the setup and can switch it off the same way.
- A connection the vendor builds for you. Another describes its own team provisioning the account and configuring the link. That's less work for you, and less control over the timing.
- A vendor integration page. Several publish a page saying they work with BigCommerce and listing what syncs, for example contacts and coupon codes. Read that list closely, because it's the whole deal.
Whichever route you're looking at, confirm which data comes across (customers, orders, carts, products) before you plan a single automation. An abandoned cart email can't fire if carts don't sync.
The ten apps, in no particular order
Brevo
Best for: Stores wanting email, SMS and WhatsApp with abandoned cart emails, product recommendations and post-purchase automation, connected for you rather than installed yourself.
Dotdigital
Best for: Brands running several storefronts, currencies or languages that want email, SMS, WhatsApp and website messages from one set of BigCommerce data (vendor claim).
Klaviyo
Best for: Online stores after a combined email and SMS platform that names BigCommerce in its integrations menu next to Shopify and WooCommerce.
Mailchimp
Best for: Sending personalised emails with product recommendations and automations, built on store data the integration brings across from BigCommerce.
MailerLite
Best for: Smaller stores wanting BigCommerce customers added to a list automatically, with abandoned cart email automations ready to switch on.
Marsello
Best for: Shops selling online and in person that want one loyalty programme across the BigCommerce store and point of sale, with email and SMS alongside (vendor claim).

Best for: Brands wanting post-purchase review requests triggered from orders, plus loyalty and referral programmes; the vendor calls itself a BigCommerce elite partner.
What each one does on a BigCommerce store
Email and SMS platforms
Klaviyo names BigCommerce in its integrations menu next to Shopify and WooCommerce, though its site doesn't spell out the install route. Mailchimp brings store data across for personalised email, and its listing shows the integration was built by the company itself. Omnisend runs email, SMS and web push from contact and order data. MailerLite adds customers to a list and handles abandoned cart emails. Brevo covers email, SMS and WhatsApp, with the connection set up by its own team. Dotdigital works across several storefronts, currencies and languages, per the vendor.
Growing your list on the storefront
Privy puts popups, banners and forms on your store, then syncs signups and coupon codes back to BigCommerce. If most of your growth starts with a discount for an email address, this is the job to fill first.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Reviews and trust
RaveCapture sends review requests, gathers photo and video reviews and sends review stars to Google Shopping. Yotpo triggers review requests from orders and adds loyalty and referral programmes on top.
Loyalty
Marsello runs one loyalty programme across your BigCommerce store and your shop counter, with email and SMS included. The reviews platform in the section above also runs loyalty and referrals if you'd rather keep both jobs in one place.
A note on SMS-only apps
You'll see SMS inside several of the email platforms above, but there's no dedicated SMS-only app on this list. None of the SMS specialists I looked at had a working BigCommerce page I could confirm, so I've left them out rather than guess. If texting is your main channel, our guide to SMS marketing software covers the specialists; check their BigCommerce support directly before signing up.

My advice for BigCommerce store owners
Start with email, because every other job here feeds it: popups collect addresses, reviews give you content, loyalty gives you reasons to send. Pick an email platform whose connection route suits how hands-on you want to be, then add one list-growth or reviews app once your welcome and abandoned cart flows are running.
Don't stack three tools that all send email and SMS. You'll end up with customers getting the same message twice and nobody sure which system holds the truth. For the emails themselves, our ecommerce email marketing guide covers what to send and when.
Your first week after connecting an app
Place a test order with a test customer and watch it arrive in the new tool. Check that the customer, the order and the cart all came across, and that a discount code created in the app works at your checkout. Then switch on one automation, not five, and read the first few messages it sends as if you were the customer. It's dull work, and it's the bit that stops an embarrassing email reaching your whole list.

Frequently asked questions
Do I install BigCommerce marketing apps myself?
Some you do, from the Apps area of your control panel. Others are connected by the vendor's own team, and some work through a vendor integration you switch on from their side. Check the route on each vendor's BigCommerce page.
What data should a marketing app sync from BigCommerce?
At least customers and orders. For abandoned cart emails you also need cart data, and for product recommendations you need your catalogue. Confirm each one before you build automations.
Can one app handle email and SMS for a BigCommerce store?
Yes. Several platforms here cover both, and some add WhatsApp or web push. Using one platform for both keeps your contact list and messages in one place.
Do I need a separate reviews app?
Not always, but a reviews tool that sends requests after each order is the simplest way to build trust on product pages. Some also send review stars to Google Shopping.
Are Shopify apps the same as BigCommerce apps?
No. Many vendors support both platforms, but features and setup can differ, so read each vendor's BigCommerce page rather than its Shopify one.
How many marketing apps should a small store run?
As few as cover your jobs. One email and SMS platform plus one reviews or loyalty tool is plenty for most small stores, and it keeps your data in fewer places.
