Best Word to PDF Converters (2026): 10 Online and Printer Tools

The best Word to PDF converter depends on the route you want. You can upload a document to an online converter, or install a PDF printer once and print any document to PDF from any program, and the printers also work for files that aren't Word. Pick the route first, then the tool.

Most people searching for Word to PDF want one thing: a PDF they can send. There are two very different ways to get it, though, and the tool pages split neatly between them.

This list covers ten tools, using only what each maker's own page says, read on 2 Nov 2026 (as of Nov 2026). It's alphabetical and in no particular order. DOCX to PDF is folded in here, because several of these converters name DOCX on their pages.

Upload it, or print it to PDF

Here's the split a searcher wouldn't guess: 'Word to PDF' has two routes. The first is an online converter. Sejda 'creates a PDF document from Microsoft Word .docx' files you give it, and the other online converters here follow the same pattern: you upload, it converts, you download.

The second route is a PDF printer you install once. doPDF says it installs itself as a virtual PDF printer driver: you click Print, choose it, and the result is a PDF file, not a printed piece of paper. Its page says it can 'convert any type of printable documents to PDF files', and it lists XLSX, PPTX and HTML files as well as DOCX.

  • Online converters: upload a Word file and download the PDF.
  • PDF printers: install once, then print to PDF from any program.
  • Windows PDF creators: printing to PDF plus merging, passwords and signatures.

Windows PDF writers and creators

CutePDF Writer makes a PDF 'from any printable document', and its page lists password protection for the PDF and readiness for Windows 11. PDFCreator calls itself a 'PDF creator & converter for Windows', and it can 'combine documents into a single PDF' and reorder pages, with passwords, digital signatures and user restrictions for protecting documents.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

The creator's page also mentions customising print jobs with your own scripts in C#, which is one for the IT team rather than a student with an essay.

If the finished PDF is too long to send in one piece, these PDF splitters cut it into sections.

Online converters you upload to

If you'd rather not install anything, the online converters are the route to take. Convertio lets you select files from your computer, Google Drive, Dropbox or a URL. FreeConvert has a field for the password to open a source file that's protected. Soda PDF asks you to drag and drop your document onto the page.

CloudConvert describes its job plainly as converting DOCX to PDF, and PDF24's Word page says the PDFs it makes open on any device, even without Word. Aspose offers to 'merge multiple Word into one PDF', which saves combining the files afterwards.

Before you convert a Word document

  • Am I converting one document, or doing this every week?
  • Would I rather upload the file or install a PDF printer?
  • Do I need to turn spreadsheets and other files into PDFs too?
  • Is the Word file password-protected?
  • Do I need several Word files merged into one PDF?
  • Do I need to add a password or a digital signature to the PDF?

Do you make a Word to PDF converter or PDF printer? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My advice on making a PDF from Word

If it's a one-off, use an online converter: upload the file, download the PDF, done. If you make PDFs every week, a PDF printer is the route to look at, because once it's installed you can print to PDF from any program, not only Word. And if you need passwords, signatures or merged documents, look at the Windows PDF creators first.
