The best customer engagement platform is the one that starts where your team does. Some makers on this list lead with mobile and web push, some build for CRM teams running campaigns, and some put customer data or AI agents at the centre. Check which channels each one names, from email and SMS to WhatsApp and in-app messages, before you book a demo.
Customer engagement platform is a label lots of software makers want, so the same three words sit on top of quite different products. Pick the wrong kind and you'll spend months bending it to fit how your team works.
This list sticks to what each maker's own website says, read on 2 Nov 2026 (as of Nov 2026). It's alphabetical and in no particular order. I've left out every customer count, logo wall and results claim, and kept to what each platform says it does and which channels it names.

Push-first, CRM-team or AI decisioning?
Here's what the shared label hides: the makers here start from different places. Batch calls itself an 'AI Customer Engagement Platform (CEP) for CRM teams'. MoEngage calls itself an 'agentic customer engagement platform'. OneSignal titles its site 'Customer Engagement Platform for Email, Push' and puts mobile push notifications first in its channel menu. Xtremepush calls itself 'CRM & Loyalty Marketing powered by InfinityAI'.
So before you compare a single feature, decide which of those starting points matches the team that'll run the platform day to day.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- Push-first: mobile and web push lead the channel menu, with email, in-app and SMS beside them.
- CRM-team platforms: built around a team that designs and runs campaigns from acquisition to retention.
- Data-first platforms: a customer data layer or your own warehouse comes first, with messaging on top.
- AI decisioning and agents: the maker puts AI agents or a decisioning engine at the centre of its pitch.
What the AI wording means on each page
AI turns up on several pages here, and each maker means something slightly different by it. Insider One sells Agent One, which it says 'understands and acts on customer intent'. CleverTap describes a Tesseract decisioning engine. Customer.io says it's 'built for agents, not just humans' and works with any AI tool using MCP, CLI, API or webhooks.
None of that tells you how well a platform will work for you. It tells you what the maker wants you to buy it for, which is a useful filter when every demo sounds the same.
Industry pages and who runs it day to day
It's also worth checking whether a maker writes for businesses like yours. Iterable lists solution pages for fintech, sports, news and streaming among others. WebEngage builds a golden record that holds 'policies, cars, loans, appointments', which tells you who it's thinking of. And Braze says it lets you act the moment it matters 'without waiting on technical teams', a line aimed squarely at marketers who don't want to queue for developers.
Things to ask before you book a demo
- Who'll run it every day: a CRM team, marketers or developers?
- Which channels do my customers answer: push, email, SMS, WhatsApp or in-app?
- Where does my customer data live today, and can the platform use it there?
- Does the maker have pages for my industry?
- What does the AI do on this platform, in the maker's own words?
- Can I look around the product before I talk to sales?

My advice on choosing a customer engagement platform
Start with the team and the channels, not the AI badge. If your customers live in your app, a push-first platform is the natural place to look. If a CRM team will run campaigns across email, SMS and WhatsApp, shortlist the platforms built for that team, and if you've got a data warehouse, look at the makers that activate data from it. Then ask for a demo using your own channels, and treat every results line as the maker's own marketing.
If keeping customers is the goal, my guide to customer retention covers the basics, and here's how to use AI for customer retention. If email does most of the work for you, start with email marketing automation.
