Canva Enterprise is Canva's setup for organizations that run several teams under one set of rules, with organization admins who set default permissions, security policies and feature access for every team at once. The detail most people miss is that, as of October 2026, once a work account is affiliated with your organization, its owner can't change the email, rename it or delete it without admin approval.
That's worth knowing before you roll Canva out across a company, and before you sign up with your work email as a member of staff. A Canva account and a Canva team are separate things. The account is how you log in and manage your profile. The team is what you join to collaborate and share. Enterprise sits on top of both and decides how much control the organization has over each account.
The four account statuses in a Canva organization
| Status | How an account gets there | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Claimable | Someone signs up with your organization's email domain | An admin can claim it by verifying the domain |
| Claimed | The admin has verified the domain | The account stays unmanaged until the user confirms it's for work |
| Affiliated | The user confirms the account is for work | They can't change the email, update the name or delete the account without admin approval |
| Managed | An affiliated account is added to a team your organization manages | Admins can set permissions, enforce security policies and access anything created or shared in organization-managed teams |
Managed is the status that gives admins real reach. Canva says admins can then switch on consolidation tools, such as team archiving and removing people from external teams. If staff have been running their own Canva teams on the side, that's how the organization pulls the work back in.
Assigning and removing organization admins
Organization admins sit above team admins. Assigning one is available to Canva Enterprise team admins and Canva for Districts via the web only, so if you're on mobile, use your web or mobile browser rather than the app. You can only assign people who are already members of your organization.
- Open Canva on the web and go to the People tab (Canva for Districts uses an Organization Admins tab).
- Choose Assign an organization admin.
- Enter the email address of each member you want to promote, pressing Enter after each one.
- Select Assign organization admin to finish.
- To remove someone later, click the more icon next to their name and choose Remove organization admin access.
Organization defaults and team overrides
Org admins can set default permissions that apply across every team. You'll find them under your account profile, in the Controls and permissions section, then Permissions. Each setting has an Organization default dropdown, with options such as Team admins and team brand designers or Team admins only, and there's a search box for finding a specific one.
The next decision is whether team admins can change those defaults. On the Team management tab, each permission has a Team Overrides toggle. With overrides on, team admins can adjust that permission for their own team. With them off, your organization defaults apply to every team automatically. You can also see which teams differ from the defaults, since they're listed next to Organization, and open any team to check or change its settings. If you're a team admin and some settings won't let you edit them, this is usually why.
Who can join, leave and invite
Team access settings decide how people get in and out. For joining, you can choose Only invited people can join, or let anyone with your email domain join or request to join. To stop departing staff walking off with content, set Who can leave this team? to Admins only. For invitations, you can require admin approval or limit it to admins and brand designers. Canva warns that if you set invitations to Everyone, new team members will incur a subscription charge, so that one's worth checking.
A few rules are fixed. Only team admins can change a team member's role, and team admins and brand designers can publish Brand Templates. You can also control who creates groups and who can see member emails.
Feature controls for AI, sharing and apps
Canva groups its Enterprise feature controls into five areas, and admins can restrict who reaches each one:
- Magic and AI: turn Canva Assistant on or off, set who can use Dream Lab and control who can use Magic features.
- Canva content: control how your team uses templates and elements.
- Team content: control how people transfer or import content.
- Share and Publish: control how the team shares and publishes designs.
- Integrations: manage workflows between Canva and third-party apps.
Two more settings matter for compliance. Org admins can review a history of permission changes from Settings, then Security, then Audit Log. And under Data and privacy in your account profile, you decide whether team members may temporarily share affected designs with Canva Support when they ask for help. That choice applies across every team in the organization.
Templates, elements and the IP indemnity filter
From Settings, then Permissions and the Canva content tab, you choose who can access the templates library: admins and brand designers, or everyone. For elements, open Manage elements, tick the ones to enable and pick who can use each. Be careful here, because Canva notes that if you deselect an element, it's disabled for all users.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Canva's IP indemnity is the bit larger brands ask about. Canva will indemnify eligible customers if they receive a third-party infringement claim over visual library assets, but only on a Canva Enterprise plan with 100 or more paid seats, subject to the subscription agreement. Admins can then decide who may use elements and fonts not covered by it: everyone, admins and brand designers, admins only, or no one.
If you're a member looking for your admin
Canva can't tell you who your admin is. It suggests checking who invited you, asking your IT team or help desk, or looking for whoever adds people and assigns roles. You can also open your profile, filter the All roles list by Team owner or Team admin, and see who manages your team settings. If your organization uses Canva but you haven't been added yet, Canva Support can look up the team owner if you send your organization's name or domain.
My verdict on Canva Enterprise
I'd look at Canva Enterprise if you've got several teams designing under one brand and you need control over who can join, what they can use and where the work ends up when someone leaves. I'd skip it if you're one small team, because most of these controls exist to manage teams at scale. For a wider view of the tool itself, read my Canva review, and if you're comparing plans from the bottom up, here's whether Canva is free.
Getting a whole organization onto one tool with the right settings is the easy half. Getting people to use it well, AI features included, is the half I help with. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.
Frequently asked questions
Can I delete my Canva account if it's affiliated with my company?
Not on your own. Once an account is affiliated, you can't change its email, update its name or delete it, and you'll need to request approval from your organization's admin.
Who qualifies for Canva's IP indemnity?
Only customers on a Canva Enterprise plan with 100 or more paid seats, and it's subject to the terms and conditions in the subscription agreement.
Can I assign a Canva organization admin from the mobile app?
No. Assigning organization admins is available via the web only, so on mobile you'd manage it in your web or mobile browser.
Can team admins change permissions the organization admin has set?
Only if team overrides are enabled for that permission. If they're disabled, the organization defaults apply to every team automatically.
How do I find out who my Canva admin is?
Canva can't tell you directly. Check who invited you, ask your IT team or help desk, or filter your team's roles by Team owner or Team admin.
