Opus Clip (OpusClip) turns long videos into short vertical clips with captions, and it suits podcasters and creators who'll pay to drop the watermark. The catch, as of Oct 2026: Starter is monthly only, so the lower annual-billed figure belongs to Pro, which also carries the credit rollover that Starter's card doesn't mention.
OpusClip cuts a long video into short clips for Shorts, TikTok and Reels, which is why it comes up whenever someone wants more mileage from a podcast or webinar. I read Opus's own pricing page and its how-it-works page to see what you pay, what you get and where the plans differ.

The Starter versus Pro sums nobody points out
Starter is 15 dollars a month and the page says it's only available in monthly. Pro is 29 dollars on monthly billing, but 14.5 dollars a month when billed annually, which the page shows as 174 dollars a year. So on paper, annual Pro shows a lower monthly figure than Starter, with double the credits: 300 against 150. The trade-off is that you're paying for the year up front.
The credit rules differ too. Pro's card says 'Unused credits roll over for 2 months'. Starter's card doesn't mention a rollover, so I wouldn't assume one. If your recording schedule is lumpy, with a big batch one month and nothing the next, that line is worth more than it looks.
The free plan is a different animal. You get 60 credits a month and clips up to 1080p, but they carry a watermark, there's no editing, and the page says 'After 3 days, the clips will no longer be exportable.' Treat it as a way to see what the tool picks out of your video, not a place to keep clips. How many credits you'll use depends on how much footage you feed it, and the pricing page has a calculator for that, so run your own numbers through it.
What OpusClip does once your video is in
- AI clipping from Starter up, plus auto reframe and AI captions with emoji and keyword highlights on every plan.
- Animated captions in 20+ languages, with speech enhancement and video dubbing on Pro.
- Auto posting to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and IG Reels, plus a social scheduler on Pro. OpusClip's own page says you can schedule a month's posts to all platforms in 10 minutes; that's its claim, not mine.
- AI B-Roll (image, video and stock) on Pro. The how-it-works page says it adds relevant B-Roll in 1 click, under 1 minute.
- Export to XML so you can finish in Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, and multiple aspect ratios (9:16, 1:1, 16:9) on Pro.
- Input from 10+ sources, custom fonts, brand templates, a team workspace, an all-in-one AI editor and a thumbnail generator.

Who gets the most from OpusClip, and who doesn't
Worth a look if you're:
- A podcaster or creator with long videos who wants vertical clips with captions.
- Happy to pay to lose the watermark and keep your clips.
- A small team that wants 2 seats, 6 social connections and the scheduler on Pro.
- An editor who finishes work in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
Skip it if you're:
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- Hoping to keep free clips long term or edit them. Free has a watermark, no editing and a 3-day export window.
- Set on annual billing for the entry plan. Starter is monthly only.
My verdict on OpusClip
I'd try OpusClip's free plan only to see which moments it pulls from one of your videos, and I'd download anything you like within the 3 days. If you post clips every week, I'd look at Pro before Starter: the annual-billed figure sits below Starter's monthly one, you get 300 credits with a 2-month rollover, and the scheduler and B-Roll come with it. Starter suits you if you don't want a year's commitment. I'd skip it if you want free clips you can keep and edit.
