A Firefox translate extension turns a web page or a highlighted phrase into your language, usually by passing the text to an online translation service. Firefox now has page translation built in, so check whether you need an add-on at all, then compare daily users, update dates and the Recommended badge. Eleven follow in no particular order.
Translation add-ons for Firefox split two ways. Some translate the whole page in front of you, others only the words you highlight, and most of them send your text to an outside engine such as Google Translate, Bing, Yandex or Microsoft, going by their own descriptions.
The eleven below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order. Every number comes from each add-on's Firefox Add-ons (addons.mozilla.org) listing: daily users, average rating, ratings count, last updated date, author and the Recommended badge, as of Oct 2026. If you're translating for a business rather than your own reading, my guide to the essentials of business translation covers what an add-on can't.
What I checked and how the eleven compare
Each add-on here translates pages or text, going by its own listing, and I read the same things on every one: author, daily users, average rating, ratings count, last updated date and the Recommended badge. Type and Good for come from each listing's description. None says whether it's free, so every cell in the last column reads Not stated, as of Oct 2026.

Eleven Firefox translators, alphabetically
DeepL
Best for: People who already use DeepL and want its translator and writing assistant inside Firefox, from the most recently updated listing here.
Firefox Translations
Best for: Seeing Mozilla's own approach: website translation that runs privately in the browser, which its listing says now ships inside Firefox.
Google Translator for Firefox
Best for: Translating selected text in place with one click or a hot-key, so the translation overwrites the original words on the page.
Immersive Translate
Best for: Reading side by side in two languages across websites, PDF and Epub eBooks, manga pictures and video subtitles, all from one add-on.
ImTranslator
Best for: Switching between Google, Microsoft and other engines across more than 170 languages, with a dictionary and text to speech included.
Linguist
Best for: Language learners who want to save translations to a personal dictionary while translating pages and Netflix subtitles in 130 languages.
Mate Translate
Best for: Learning words as you go in 103 languages, with web pages, highlighted text and Netflix subtitles all covered by one add-on.
Simple Translate
Best for: Quick translations of a word or sentence you select or type on a web page, from one of three Recommended add-ons here.
To Google Translate
Best for: Right-clicking a passage to read it in your own language or hear it read aloud, from the add-on with the most daily users here.
Translator PoqDev
Best for: Looking up the odd word or phrase as you browse, using Google's translator, for people who don't need whole pages translated.
TWP Translate Web Pages
Best for: Translating a whole page where it sits, with no new tab to open and a choice of Google, Bing or Yandex behind it.

Mozilla's own translator against the engine wrappers
Firefox Translations is published under the Firefox name, and its listing says it translates websites privately, without using the cloud, and that its feature is now built into Firefox itself. It shows 59,190 daily users and was last updated July 21, 2023, as of Oct 2026.
Most of the rest pass your text to an outside engine. Three carry Mozilla's Recommended by Firefox badge on their listing, and the add-on with the most daily users here has 649,997 of them, as of Oct 2026. Averages across the eleven run from 3.4 to 4.7.
Busy and well rated aren't the same thing. Mate Translate shows 1,943 ratings on 18,835 daily users and was last updated November 16, 2022, while Translator PoqDev shows 46 ratings on 34,325 daily users, as of Oct 2026. Read both numbers before you lean on the average.
Matching the translator to what you read
- You read whole foreign language pages: pick a page translator that works in place.
- You only hit the odd unknown word: pick a selected text translator with a right-click or hot-key.
- You'd rather your text stayed in the browser: try Firefox's built-in translation before adding anything.
- You're learning a language: pick one with a personal dictionary for saving words.
- You watch subtitled shows: pick one whose listing names Netflix or video subtitles.
- You read PDFs and eBooks: pick a translator whose listing mentions those files.
Three checks before you add a translator
- Read which translation engine its listing names, so you know which service your text goes to.
- Check the last updated date. On this list it runs from November 16, 2022 to October 26, 2026, as of Oct 2026.
- Compare the ratings count with daily users before you trust the average.

My plain advice on Firefox translate add-ons
Try Firefox's own built-in translation first. If it covers the languages you read, you mightn't need an add-on at all. If it doesn't, decide whether you want whole pages or single words translated, then compare the last updated date and ratings count of two or three add-ons that do that job.
A big daily user number is reassuring, but it's not the whole story. A translator that hasn't been updated in a couple of years is worth skipping when there's a busier, newer one doing the same thing.

Frequently asked questions
Does Firefox have a built-in translator?
Yes. Mozilla's own translation add-on says on its listing that its feature is now built into Firefox, and that it translates websites privately without using the cloud.
Which translate add-on has the most users on Firefox?
On this list the add-on with the most daily users has 649,997, and the one with the fewest has 13,138, as of Oct 2026. Daily users show reach, so check the last updated date too.
Are Firefox translate extensions free?
None of the eleven listings here says either way, so this page marks them Not stated. Read each listing in full before you add one.
Can a Firefox translator handle Netflix subtitles?
Two listings here mention Netflix subtitles and one more mentions video subtitles in general. Check that the listing names the service you watch.
What's the difference between a page translator and a text translator?
A page translator converts everything on the page you're reading. A text translator works on the words you select or type, which suits quick look-ups.
