DoorDash Refund: How to Report a Problem and When You'll Get Paid Back

To get a DoorDash refund, open the order from Orders in the app, tap Help, pick the issue that matches what went wrong and follow the prompts. As of October 2026 you may be offered a credit, a refund or a redelivery, and a card refund takes up to 3 business days if the charge is still pending, or 3 to 10 business days once it's posted.

Here's the catch most people miss. If the charge is still pending on your statement, you won't see a refund at all. The pending charge just disappears, because the funds were only authorised, never fully taken. On a partial refund, the pending charge is replaced by a new charge for the lower amount. So if you're scanning your bank app for a refund line that never arrives, check whether the original charge has quietly vanished or shrunk instead.

Which Help option to pick for each problem

DoorDash splits problems into Delivery Issues and Order Issues, and picking the right one matters because it decides which resolution flow you get. This is how the options map, as of October 2026:

What went wrongSection in HelpOption to select
Your order never turned upDelivery IssuesOrder never arrived
The whole order was someone else's foodOrder IssuesOrder never arrived
An item, or part of one, is missingOrder IssuesMissing or incorrect items (Missing items on desktop)
Wrong size, wrong item or ignored instructionsOrder IssuesMissing or incorrect items (Items made incorrectly on desktop)
The order arrived lateDelivery IssuesOrder arrived late
The food was cold or poor qualityOrder IssuesPoor food quality
The delivery arrived damagedOrder IssuesPoor food quality

Two rows surprise people. If every item in the bag was wrong, DoorDash wants it reported as Order never arrived, not as incorrect items. And there's no separate damaged option: a squashed or spilled delivery goes in under Poor food quality.

How to report the problem in the DoorDash app

  1. Tap the Orders button and select the order.
  2. Tap Help.
  3. Choose the section, Delivery Issues or Order Issues, and the option from the table above.
  4. Follow the prompts on screen. For a missing order you can pick a resolution or chat with an agent.
  5. Add clear photos of the problem, then submit.

On the website, click the three lines in the top left corner, choose Orders, select the order, click Help and pick the issue in the same way. DoorDash says it investigates every order reported as never delivered to find the root cause.

What counts as missing and what counts as incorrect

DoorDash draws the line clearly. Missing means the whole item is gone, or part of an item is, such as the side of fries from a combo meal. Incorrect means you got the wrong size or the wrong menu item, your special instructions or extra ingredients were ignored, or the item had unexpected ingredients or didn't match the menu description. Using Self-Help gives you the full set of resolution options a support agent could offer, which can include a credit, a refund or a redelivery of the missing or incorrect items when available.

The photos that speed up a claim

DoorDash asks for photo evidence and lists what helps it resolve a report faster:

  • Original, clear photos of what you received, with every item visible and unwrapped and nothing blurry.
  • A photo of the receipt if you have one, either a screenshot from the app or the printed copy.
  • A photo that shows the specific problem. For missing fries, that's the opened bag without the fries. For a wrong item, it's a photo of what you got instead.

Take the photos before you start eating or throw the packaging away. It's the one step you can't go back and do later.

Credit or refund: what you get back

Credits and refunds work very differently. A credit is available straight away, sits on the account you used for the original order and is applied automatically to your next order. A refund goes back to your payment card, and the timing depends on your bank. To see your credit balance on iOS, tap the Account icon at the top and then Payment. On Android, tap the icon in the top left corner and then Payment Methods.

How to check your refund status

Once a refund is issued, DoorDash emails the address on your account with the refund issue date and the amount. In the iOS app, go to Orders and then Order History to see the receipt, the refunded amount and the issue date. On the website, click the three lines on the homepage, open Orders, then click the restaurant. Use that date as your starting point: the 3 and 10 business day clocks run from it, not from the day you complained.

My verdict on getting a DoorDash refund

I'd always report through Help in the app rather than hunting for a phone number first, because Self-Help puts every resolution on the table straight away. Pick the exact option, especially the two odd ones: a fully wrong order is Order never arrived and a damaged one is Poor food quality. Take clear photos before you touch anything. And if you're offered a choice and don't plan to order again soon, I'd take the refund, because a credit only helps on your next order.
