UK parcel couriers fall into four groups: high-street and locker networks for everyday parcels, express carriers for next-day and time-critical deliveries, comparison sites that book other couriers for you, and freight networks for pallets and heavy items. Match the group to what you send most, then compare the ten options below.
If you sell online from a spare room or a small unit, the courier you use shapes your reviews more than almost anything else in your shop. The trick is matching the carrier to the parcel, not choosing one name for everything.
The ten options below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from each company's own website, read as of Oct 2026. If you'd rather manage several couriers from one screen, my guide to shipping software for small business covers the tools that sit on top.
UK parcel couriers at a glance
I checked the last column on each provider's own website, as of Oct 2026, using the same rule as every list on this site: Yes only where the page names a free plan or free edition, Trial only for a named free trial. These providers sell policies, services and contracts rather than free plans, so every row reads Not stated, which simply means the page I read didn't name one. Ask each provider for a quote based on your own details.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Two of these couriers now belong to one group
Here's the detail most courier roundups miss. One well-known carrier's website now reads Yodel by InPost and points you to the InPost app to track, manage and get help with your parcels. So if you've used both, you're now dealing with the same group.
Two more aren't couriers in the usual sense. Parcel2Go is a comparison and booking service that sends your parcel with other carriers, and Pallet-Track calls itself the UK's leading palletised distribution network, so it's for pallets, not parcels.
Locker network, express carrier or comparison site?
- Locker and shop networks. Customers collect from a locker or a local shop. Good for small, light parcels and for returns customers can drop off themselves.
- Express and next-day carriers. Timed, tracked and often with proof of delivery. Use these for high-value orders and anything a customer is waiting on.
- Comparison and booking sites. One account, several carriers, and you choose per parcel. Handy while you're still learning which courier suits which product.
- Freight and pallet networks. For heavy, bulky or palletised goods that a standard parcel service won't take.
Five things to check before you book a UK courier
- Size and weight limits. Check the longest side as well as the weight, because one carrier here quotes separately for items over a metre.
- Tracking and proof of delivery. Your customer service inbox will thank you for both.
- Collection or drop-off. Decide whether a driver collects from you or you drop off at a shop or locker.
- Volume thresholds. One carrier's page says you keep its business discounts by sending 40+ parcels each calendar month.
- Returns. Make it easy for customers to send things back, because a painful returns process loses you repeat orders.

My plain advice on choosing a parcel courier in the UK
Don't use one courier for everything. Use a locker or high-street network for small, light orders, keep an express carrier for anything valuable or urgent, and only add a pallet network when you're moving heavy stock. Send a handful of test parcels to friends around the country before you switch your whole shop over, and note how each one arrives.
And if your shop platform is part of the problem, my guide to Shopify alternatives walks through the store options.

Frequently asked questions
Which parcel courier suits a small UK business?
It depends on what you send. Light parcels suit locker and shop networks, urgent or valuable items suit express carriers, and heavy goods need a freight or pallet network.
What's the difference between a courier and a parcel comparison site?
A courier collects and delivers the parcel itself. A comparison site lets you compare several couriers, book through one account and then hands the parcel to the carrier you chose.
Do UK couriers offer business accounts?
Several carriers here have business services, and one says you keep its business discounts by sending 40+ parcels each calendar month, as of Oct 2026.
Can I send pallets with a parcel courier?
Usually not. Pallets and heavy freight go through a palletised network, and one network on this list is built only for pallets.
How do parcel lockers work?
You drop a parcel into a locker or a partner shop, and your customer collects it using the app. One network says it has passed 16K lockers in the UK.
