As of October 2026 there's no open Nitro free trial you can claim on demand. Discord's 2-week trial article is still live, but its offer had to be claimed before 29 January 2026, so the only way to know if a trial is open to you is to check your Nitro tab: no banner means you're not eligible.
That dated article is the catch. It still shows up in search and still looks current, so people keep trying to claim an offer that's over as written. Discord's eligibility guide is also clear that support can't manually add an offer to your account or change your eligibility. The free route that does work today is Nitro credit bought with Orbs, and I'll come to that below.
How to check if a Nitro trial is open to you
- Update the desktop app first. Discord says some offers only show on the latest version.
- Open Discord on desktop or in your browser.
- Click the Direct Messages button, then the Nitro tab. You can also go to User Settings then Nitro.
- Look for an offer banner. If there isn't one, you're not eligible right now.
- Check back later. Discord says eligibility can change while an offer is running.
Offers are limited-time, can end without notice and can't be combined unless Discord says so. At the time I read it, the guide listed two current offers: a Nitro Free Shop Item and a Nitro Mobile Orb Drop. Read their own entries before claiming, because neither is a straight trial.
Who qualified for the last 2-week trial
The January offer is over, but its rules are a useful guide to how Discord decides who gets a trial. Here's what it asked for:
| Rule | What Discord said |
|---|---|
| Recent Nitro | None in the 30 days before you claim, and trials count |
| Recent offers | No trial or discount offer received in 45 days, none redeemed in 90 days |
| Server Boosts | No active Server Boost subscription |
| Payment | A valid payment method on the account, even for the free trial |
| iOS | Must have subscribed to Nitro through Apple before, but not in the last 30 days |
| Android | Meet the other rules and not subscribed in the last 30 days |
Two of those trip people up. An active Server Boost subscription rules you out, even if you've never had Nitro. And on iPhone you only qualified if you'd paid for Nitro through Apple at some point before, so a brand new iOS user wasn't eligible at all.
What never qualifies for Discord's offers
The eligibility guide lists what doesn't count. Offers need a paid standard Nitro subscription bought through the Nitro tab on desktop or web, so these are all excluded:
- Nitro credit bought with Orbs
- Gifted Nitro, whether you sent it or received it
- Trials, including referral and Share Nitro trials
- Nitro Classic or Nitro Basic, and upgrades from either to Nitro
- Anyone who's had Nitro in the last 30 days
- Anyone already on another promotion or discount
If you're short on time, how to gift Discord nitro is the quick read.
How a trial works if you do get one
A trial is free, but you'll need to add a card. You're charged when the trial ends unless you cancel before then, and the plan then auto-renews as the monthly or yearly option you picked. Set a reminder the day you claim it. If you decide it's not for you, my guide to cancelling Discord Nitro covers desktop, iPhone and Android.
The free route that works without a trial
If there's no banner, Nitro credit is your way in. You can buy it with Orbs in the Orbs Shop, and it's sometimes a Quest reward. Orbs come from doing Quests, so this costs time rather than cash.
Nitro credit gives you Nitro for a limited time. It stacks, it never expires and it never auto-renews, so there's no card to forget about. It's not the full package, though: it leaves out the 2 Server Boosts, the Boost discount and the Nitro badge.

My advice
Don't chase trial codes or links from strangers. Discord's own guide says the Nitro tab is where offers appear, and support can't add one for you. Check the tab once, check again in a few weeks, and if you just want to try the perks, earn Orbs and swap them for credit. If you're still deciding whether you need Nitro at all, start with what Discord gives you for free.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Discord Nitro free trial right now?
Not one you can claim on demand. Discord's 2-week trial had to be claimed before 29 January 2026. Check the Nitro tab on desktop or web: if there's no banner, you're not eligible.
Can Discord support add a Nitro trial to my account?
No. Discord's eligibility guide says support can't manually add an offer or change your eligibility.
Do I need a card for a Discord Nitro free trial?
Yes. Discord says the trial is free but you must add a payment method, and you're charged when it ends unless you cancel first.
Why can't I get a Nitro trial on iPhone?
For the last 2-week offer, iOS users only qualified if they'd previously subscribed to Nitro through Apple and not in the past 30 days.
How can I get Nitro free without a trial?
Buy Nitro credit with Orbs in the Orbs Shop, or earn it as an occasional Quest reward. It gives time-limited Nitro without the 2 Boosts, the Boost discount or the Nitro badge.
