If Facebook rejects your Marketplace listing, go to your profile, open Profile status, select Marketplace below Extra features, then click See what happened and Request review. If Facebook finds it made a mistake, it restores the listing. You've got up to 180 days after the rejection to ask, and the option disappears once you've already requested a review.
A rejected listing feels personal, especially when you can see other people selling the same thing. Usually it isn't. Facebook reviews listings when its systems detect a possible problem or when someone reports them, and anything that doesn't fit its rules is rejected. Here's how to find out why, how to appeal and when an appeal isn't possible.
Why Facebook rejects Marketplace listings
Facebook says it may reject a listing that doesn't follow Meta's Commerce Policies or the Community Standards. Its own example is a counterfeit item. The selling guide lists other common reasons too, and a few of them catch people out:
| Reason | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Counterfeits | Knockoffs, replicas of branded goods, pirated copies of a film |
| Pirated copies | Unauthorised copies of videos, films, TV shows, games, music or books |
| Services | Offering services such as house cleaning. Facebook's selling guide says they're only allowed on Jobs on Marketplace |
| Animals | Selling animals or animal products, including adoption posts, except by approved pet adoption matching services |
| Healthcare products | Medical and healthcare products, including everyday things like thermometers and first-aid kits |
| Recalled products | Anything that has been recalled. Facebook suggests checking the manufacturer's website or a government site if you're unsure |
There's one more you might not expect. Meta's Commerce Policies say Marketplace is meant for consumer-to-consumer sales, and businesses or people selling in a business capacity in the European Economic Area, the Philippines and India may have their listings removed.
How to see why your listing was rejected
- Go to your profile.
- Click the menu icon and select Profile status.
- Select Marketplace below Extra features.
- Select Your listings.
- Click the listing below Needs attention.
- Click See details.
How to request a review
- Go to your profile.
- Click the menu icon and select Profile status.
- Select Marketplace below Extra features.
- Click See what happened or See issue and select the listing.
- Click Request review.
If the review goes your way, Facebook restores the listing. If it doesn't, the rejection stands. Meta's Commerce Policies describe the same route for products in a shop catalogue, so if you sell through a Facebook or Instagram shop as well, the idea is the same.
Alcohol is another category that gets listings rejected, so read the alcohol policy on Facebook.
When the Request review button isn't there
Facebook gives three reasons you might not see the option:
| Reason | What it means |
|---|---|
| More than 180 days have passed | Reviews are only available for 180 days after the rejection |
| You've already asked | Each rejected listing gets one review request |
| No review for that rule | Some rules can't be appealed at all |
Listings for banned items are a common reason for rejection, so read why weapons listings get removed.
A rejected listing vs a warning on your account
These are different things. A rejection affects one listing. If you keep breaking the Commerce Policies, Facebook may limit or suspend your Marketplace access, and it says it'll warn you first when your access is at risk.
If it's the first time you've broken a rule, and depending on the rule, you may be able to remove that warning. You do it from the Facebook app on your phone: Profile status, Marketplace, then Fix it now and Request review. Facebook asks you to read about its policies and lets you say what you think happened. The catch is that the listings that led to the warning won't be restored. If you can't use Marketplace at all, my guide on why Facebook Marketplace isn't working for you covers the other causes.

What if other people are selling the same thing?
Facebook has an answer for this. If your listing was rejected but you can see similar listings on Marketplace, you can request a review if you think Facebook made a mistake, or report a listing you think breaks the rules. Facebook reviews listings when its systems detect a possible problem or when someone reports them, so a similar listing staying up doesn't mean it's allowed.
If your listing hasn't been rejected but is stuck waiting, that's a different status. My guide to a Facebook Marketplace listing that's pending explains what's going on there.
My advice
Read the reason before you appeal. If the item is on Facebook's banned list, a review won't change anything and you've used up your one request. If you think the system got it wrong, for example a toy that looks like something it isn't, request the review straight away rather than waiting, and fix the photos or wording on your next listing so it doesn't happen again.
