10k views on an Instagram reel earns nothing by itself in India, because Instagram doesn't pay per view and Meta publishes no per-view rate. What 10k views can earn is Gifts: India is on the Gifts country list, so once you have 500 followers, viewers can send you Stars on that reel and Instagram pays you one US cent for every Star.
That's the honest answer, and it's why calculators that turn 10k views into rupees are making it up. Below I'll show you what Gifts pay on, why small earnings don't land in your account straight away, and what a 10k-view reel is worth when you use it the right way.
Every rule and figure on this page comes from Meta's own Help Center pages, read as of October 2026.
Why there's no per-view rate on Instagram
Instagram's payout page names four tools it pays from: badges, bonuses, Gifts and Subscriptions. None pays per view. Bonuses are the closest thing to performance pay, but Instagram describes them as a test, open only to creators it invites, and each bonus has its own rules.
So the number on your reel isn't a meter running in the background. Views are what put your content in front of the people who might send a Gift, follow you, buy from you or hire you. That's where the value is.
What Gifts on a 10k-view reel can pay
Gifts are the one Meta tool that pays you directly from a single reel. Viewers buy Stars and send them as Gifts, and Instagram's Help Center says both followers and non-followers can send them. So a reel that travels beyond your own audience can still earn.
| Gifts rule | What Meta says |
|---|---|
| Countries | India is on the list; so are Indonesia, the UK and the US |
| Followers | At least 500 |
| Age and account | 18 or older, with a professional account |
| What you're paid | One US cent for every Star received |
| Not eligible | Collaborative posts and accounts mainly posting content focused on children |
Notice the collaborative posts rule. If your 10k-view reel was a collab, Gifts won't apply to it, so post your own version when you want Gifts switched on.
You can see what you've earned in the app: go to your profile, tap Professional Dashboard, then under Your Tools tap Gifts. The top of the screen shows approximate earnings since your last payout, and See all shows monthly and total figures.
Why small earnings don't hit your bank straight away
This catches a lot of creators out. Outside the US, Instagram pays once your balance reaches $25 for most payout methods, or $100 if you chose wire transfer. Anything below that rolls over to the next month until you cross the line. Payouts for Gifts land around the 21st of the month for the previous month's earnings.
There's also a deadline you need to know about. If you haven't set up a payout account, Instagram lets you earn up to $500 per tool, but you forfeit those earnings if you don't add a payout account within 6 months. Set it up the day you switch Gifts on.
How to make the next 10k views count
- Switch to a professional account if you haven't, and check Gifts appears under Your Tools.
- Set up your payout account with your legal name exactly as it appears on your tax ID.
- Post your best reels from your own account, not as collaborations, so Gifts can apply.
- Ask for the follow. A reel that reaches beyond your followers is your best chance to grow the audience brands pay for.
- Cross-post to Facebook. Meta lists India for Facebook Content Monetization, with Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and other Indian languages supported.
And please don't buy views to hit 10k. Instagram's Partner Monetization Policies say creators can lose the ability to monetize if their audience is largely fake engagement, and views are named in that rule.
Four myths about 10k views I hear from Indian creators
- "Instagram pays a fixed amount per 1,000 views." It doesn't. Meta publishes no per-view rate for Instagram, and none of its four payout tools pays on views.
- "You need 10k followers before you can earn." Not for Gifts. The bar is 500 followers, and 10,000 is the bar for live badges, a different tool.
- "My Facebook Stars will work on Instagram." They won't. Meta says Facebook Stars on reels is a separate product, and a Facebook Stars balance can't be used to send Gifts on Instagram.
- "Everyone can join bonuses." Instagram calls bonuses a test, and you need an invitation to take part.
If a video or an app tells you otherwise, ask where its numbers come from. Meta's own Help Center is the only source that can tell you what Instagram pays.

What brands see in a 10k-view reel
For a small Indian account, one reel that reaches 10k people is proof you can make content that travels. That's worth more in a pitch than the Gifts it earned. When a local brand asks what you can do for them, show them that reel's insights alongside your usual reach. If they pay you, Instagram requires the paid partnership label, even when the payment is a free product.

My verdict
10k views in India is a good sign, not a payday. Turn on Gifts, sort your payout account before the 6-month clock matters, and use the reel as evidence when you pitch. If you're wondering what happens further up the scale, here's what 2 million views earns in India, and if you're still building your audience, my page on income at 500 followers in India lines up with the Gifts threshold.
