As of October 2026, Sage 50 in the US costs $132.17 a month for Pro Accounting, $182.50 a month for Premium Accounting and $271.17 a month for Quantum Accounting, on a minimum one-year commitment. In the UK, Sage 50 Accounts Standard is £115.00 a month plus VAT and Accounts Professional is £234.00 a month plus VAT.
Sage 50 is the desktop-rooted accounting product that now also comes as Sage 50 Cloud. The price you pay depends mostly on how many people need to log in, and the US and UK editions are different products with different plan names, so I've kept them separate below.
Sage 50 US plans, as of October 2026
| Plan | Price on Sage's pricing page | Users |
|---|---|---|
| Pro Accounting | $132.17 a month | 1 user |
| Premium Accounting | $182.50 a month | 1 to 5 users |
| Quantum Accounting | $271.17 a month | 1 to 40 users |
All three require a minimum one-year commitment, a valid credit card and internet access to activate and keep support and services running, and the Sage Business Care plan renews automatically. Payroll isn't included in the base price; it's a separate subscription priced in tiers by number of employees, which Sage sells by phone.
What each US plan adds
- Pro: one user, cloud access, invoice and bill tracking, purchase orders and approvals, expense management, automated bank reconciliation, reporting, inventory, cash flow and job management, plus automatic updates and backups.
- Premium: everything in Pro for 1 to 5 users, plus multiple companies, advanced budgeting and reporting, serialized inventory tracking, advanced job costing and audit trails.
- Quantum: everything in Premium for up to 40 users, plus role-based user permissions, more automation, order process and workflow management, and project management.
The price discrepancy worth knowing about
When I checked Sage's US site in October 2026, the Sage 50 product page said pricing starts at $124.42 a month for Pro Accounting, while the dedicated pricing page listed Pro at $132.17 a month. The pricing page is the one you'll be buying from, so budget on that figure and ask Sage which applies to you before you commit to a year.
Sage 50 Cloud or Sage 50 Desktop
Sage's FAQ draws the line simply. Sage 50 Cloud is a full online access platform you can use from anywhere on any device, with automatic updates and backups. The Sage 50 Desktop edition has to be installed. Either way, the subscription includes the desktop functionality, online capabilities, complimentary training, product maintenance and software updates, and Sage says subscribers get a dedicated Customer Success representative.
There's also a Microsoft 365 integration that lets you see customer contacts in Outlook, back up to OneDrive, build synced reports in Excel and upload expense receipts from your phone. You can buy Microsoft 365 alongside your Sage 50 subscription.
Sage 50 Desktop bundles with payroll
If you'd rather install it, Sage also sells Sage 50 Desktop bundles priced by the year. As of October 2026 its pricing page listed a payroll bundle at $1,155 a year and Premium Accounting with Payroll at $1,654 a year. That's worth comparing with a monthly cloud plan plus the separate payroll subscription if you run payroll in-house.
Sage 50 UK plans, as of October 2026
| Plan | Price | Users included | Expense captures included |

Extra users cost more. Professional adds features such as customer-specific pricing and discounts. Sage also offers a 30-day free trial of the full desktop version of Standard or Professional.

How to decide which Sage 50 plan you need
- Count everyone who needs to log in, including your bookkeeper or accountant. In the US, a second user moves you from Pro to Premium.
- Decide whether you need more than one company file. That's a Premium feature in the US.
- Price payroll separately: it's an add-on in the US, so get the tier for your headcount.
- Factor in the one-year minimum term before you sign.
- Compare the total, payroll included, with cloud-first rivals before you commit.
If Sage 50 looks heavy for your size, compare it with QuickBooks pricing and Xero pricing, or see our list of Sage alternatives.
My verdict
Sage 50 makes sense if you need its inventory, job costing or multi-company tools and have an accountant who knows it. For a one-person business that only invoices and reconciles a bank account, you're paying for depth you won't use. Check the user count first, because that's what pushes the bill up fastest.
