As of October 2026, Spotify Premium in Malaysia costs RM 17.50 a month for Individual, RM 24.50 for Duo, RM 27.90 for Family and RM 9.50 for Student. One difference from most countries: Family in Malaysia covers up to 4 accounts, not 6, although you can buy 1 or 2 extra Premium accounts if more people live with you.
That Family limit is easy to miss, so it's worth knowing before you pick a plan. Here's every Spotify Premium price in ringgit, the current opening offers and the rules on sharing, all from Spotify's own Malaysia pages.

Family in Malaysia: 4 accounts, plus 2 you can add
Spotify's Malaysia page says Premium Family is for up to 4 family members living together, and the plan manager gets parental controls. If there are more than 4 of you, Spotify lets you buy up to 2 additional Premium accounts as a recurring subscription.
Spotify's Malaysia support page fills in the rest. The plan manager can buy up to 2 additional accounts at MYR 9.50 each, but only once the plan already has 4 members and was set up with a recurring payment method. The plan manager is the only person who signs up and pays, can add or remove members, and can't join another plan. Members can only switch plans once every 12 months.
One more detail for long-time subscribers: Spotify says that if you signed up for Premium Family before 12 November 2024, your 6-member Family plan stays unchanged. Think carefully before cancelling or changing that plan, since the current version only covers 4.
| Household | What Spotify's Malaysia page offers |
|---|---|
| 2 people, a couple | Duo at RM 24.50 |
| 3 or 4 family members | Family at RM 27.90 |
| 5 or 6 family members | Family plus 1 or 2 additional accounts at MYR 9.50 each |
Spotify asks for your address on both Duo and Family to confirm you live together, and you can invite members right after buying.
Duo: RM 24.50 for a couple
Duo is for a couple who live at the same address. Each person gets their own Premium account, listens at the same time on their own login, keeps their own saved music and playlists, and can't see what the other is listening to. Spotify says it's cheaper than two full-price Individual accounts, and at RM 24.50 against RM 17.50 each, that's easy to see.
Student: RM 9.50 for up to 4 years
Spotify's FAQ for Malaysia says Student is for people over 18 who are enrolled at an eligible accredited institution of higher education, and you can keep it for up to 4 years. It isn't open to anyone who has already tried Premium. My guide to Spotify Premium Student explains how to verify.

How the trial and cancelling work
- You need a valid payment method to start a trial. Spotify uses it to confirm your country and to bill you if you keep Premium.
- Spotify sends a reminder 7 days before your trial ends.
- Cancel a paid plan and it runs until your next billing date, then switches to the free service.
- Cancel during a zero-priced free trial and you lose Premium immediately, and that trial can't be reactivated.
- You keep your playlists and saved music either way, and can listen with ads on the free plan.
What Premium gets you
Spotify's Malaysia page sets Free against Premium and lists these Premium benefits on every plan: ad-free music, downloads for offline listening, playing songs in any order, high audio quality, listening with friends in real time and organising your listening queue. If shared listening is the draw, you can also make a collaborative playlist on Spotify with friends and family.
How Malaysia compares
Malaysia sits on Spotify's classic four-plan line-up of Individual, Duo, Family and Student, but with the smaller 4-account Family. If you want to see how other markets are priced, the page I keep on what Spotify Premium costs in the US, UK, Australia and Canada has those countries, again taken from Spotify's own pages.
Which plan should you choose?
- Just you: Individual at RM 17.50, with 2 months for the price of one if you're new.
- A couple at the same address: Duo at RM 24.50.
- Up to 4 family members: Family at RM 27.90, with parental controls.
- A household of 5 or 6: Family plus 1 or 2 extra accounts at MYR 9.50 each.
- A student over 18: Student at RM 9.50.
My verdict
Spotify Premium in Malaysia is simple to choose: Individual for one, Duo for a couple and Family for a household of up to 4. The thing to watch is the Family limit, because it's smaller than people expect. If you're new, take the 2-for-1 opening offer on Individual, Duo or Student, and check Spotify's Malaysia page on the day you sign up, as offers change.
