Best Product Analytics Tools (2026): 10 Options Compared

The best product analytics tools show how people use your app or SaaS product: which features they adopt, where they drop out of a flow and what keeps them coming back. Some focus on events and funnels, some add session replay, and some run directly on your own data warehouse. Ten options follow in no particular order.

Web analytics tells you how people found your site. Product analytics tells you what they did once they were inside your product, and that's where retention is won or lost.

The ten tools below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the vendor's own website, read this week. If you're new to the subject, my explainer on using product analytics is a gentle start.

Product analytics tools in one table

I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the site names a free plan, a free version, a free account or an open source edition. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to try it, so check the vendor's page before you sign up.

The ICO's guidance on cookies and similar technologies says you must tell people if you set cookies, clearly explain what the cookies do and why, and get the user's consent. It lists an exception for cookies that are essential to provide an online service at someone's request.

Most product analytics tools set cookies or use similar storage, so plan consent before you add the tag. The ICO also says it's consulting on revised guidance on storage and access technologies, so check the page again before launch rather than relying on an old checklist.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Events, replays or the warehouse?

Event-based analytics counts what users do, then builds funnels, retention curves and cohorts from those events. It's the core of the category and where most teams start.

Session replay shows recordings of real sessions. It's slower to review, but it explains why a funnel step fails in a way a chart can't.

Warehouse-native tools read data you already hold in your own warehouse. They suit teams with a data engineer and a single source of truth, and they avoid copying data into yet another system.

Questions for your product team

  1. Which three questions do we most need answered?
  2. Who will set up and maintain the tracking plan?
  3. Do we need session replay as well as charts?
  4. Should the data stay in our own warehouse?
  5. How will we handle consent for the tags?
  6. Can we see results by customer account, not just user?

If you've set up product analytics for a software team, you could turn what you learned into a SaaS article for my blog.

Signs you need product analytics

  • You can't say which features people use. Track key events.
  • Trials don't convert and nobody knows why. Build a funnel.
  • Churn surprises you. Watch retention by cohort.
  • Bug reports are vague. Add session replay.

Do you make product analytics or SaaS tools? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My plain advice on product analytics tools

Write a short tracking plan before you install anything: the five events that matter, named clearly. Teams that track everything end up trusting nothing, and a tidy plan makes any of these tools useful from week one.

Then pick the tool your team will open every day, not the one with the longest feature list. To see how people move around your pages too, my roundup of heatmap tools fills that gap.

Frequently asked questions

What are product analytics tools?

They're tools that track how people use a digital product, such as which features they use, where they drop out and what keeps them returning.

How is product analytics different from web analytics?

Web analytics focuses on traffic and acquisition. Product analytics focuses on behaviour inside the product, such as activation, feature use and retention.

Do product analytics tools need cookie consent in the UK?

The ICO says you must get consent for cookies unless they're essential to provide a service someone asked for, so most analytics tags need a consent plan.

Are there free product analytics tools?

Yes. Several platforms offer free plans or free tiers that suit early-stage products.

What is warehouse-native product analytics?

It's analytics that runs directly on data stored in your own data warehouse, rather than copying it into a separate tool.

Is session replay part of product analytics?

Often. Many tools combine replays with funnels and events so you can see why users get stuck.
