Yes, Typeform has a free plan, but it's small. Typeform's help centre says the Free plan lets you collect 10 responses per month across all your forms combined, with unlimited forms, logic, embedding and integrations. When you hit the limit, your forms go into Private mode until the next month or until you upgrade.
Ten responses is enough to build and test a form, not to run a lead form or a customer survey. The free plan is generous on features and strict on volume. Here's how it works and where the paid plans start.
What the free plan includes
- Unlimited typeforms and unlimited questions.
- 10 responses a month across all your forms.
- Logic, including branching, calculations, scores and variables.
- Custom Endings, including multiple Endings for different outcomes.
- Embedding on your website.
- Downloading your results as a spreadsheet.
- Basic reports and metrics.
- Integrations such as Calendly, Zapier, Google Sheets, Slack, Mailchimp, Airtable, HubSpot and Pipedrive.
- Typeform AI to build forms from a description.
All you need to sign up is an email address. Typeform also notes that it sometimes experiments with its plans, so what you see in your account may differ slightly from its help page.
How the response limit works
This is the bit to understand before you share a form. Typeform's response limits apply across every form in your account, not per form. So two forms that each get 5 responses use your whole free month.
- The limit resets every month, and unused responses don't carry over.
- Typeform emails you, and warns you inside your account, as you near your limit and again when you reach it.
- At the limit, your forms go into Private mode and respondents see a message that the form is closed.
- Deleting responses doesn't give them back; deleted responses still count for that month.
That last point catches people. Clearing out test submissions won't free up space, so use preview mode for testing rather than submitting real responses to your own form.
Features that need a paid plan
Typeform lists these as paid-only. Several can be tried on Free, but not published:
| Paid feature | Can you test it on Free? |
|---|---|
| Payment question | Yes, without publishing |
| File upload | Yes, without publishing |
| Video questions | Yes, without publishing |
| Signature question | Yes, without publishing |
| Remove Typeform branding | No |
| Redirect to a URL after submitting | No |
| Partial responses | No |
| Spam protection with reCAPTCHA | No |
When you add a paid feature on Free, Typeform puts the form into trial mode: you can play with it, but you need to upgrade to share it.
The paid plans at a glance
| Plan | Responses a month | Users |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 10 | 1 |
| Basic | 100 | 1 |
| Plus | 1,000 | 3 |
| Business | 10,000 | 5 |
Plus adds removing Typeform branding and a custom subdomain; Business adds drop-off rates and conversion tracking. If you downgrade later, Typeform says your collected responses and forms aren't deleted, and forms using paid features go back into trial mode.
If 10 responses won't cover you, my comparison of free form builders looks at tools with bigger free allowances, Google Forms versus Typeform weighs up the obvious free rival, and Typeform alternatives covers paid options.
Extra tools on the free plan
Typeform's free plan includes more than people expect. You can use URL parameters to save and show information about respondents in your form link, import a form from Google Forms, use Typeform's APIs to build forms and collect responses without the builder, and choose from question types including Net Promoter Score. Integrations are included too, although Typeform notes you can't test integrations that are only available on paid plans.
How to check how many responses you've used
- Click your organisation menu in the upper left of your Workspace.
- Click Plan and billing.
- Read your response total for the month and the date Typeform started counting.
If you need more on a paid plan, Typeform says you can add extra responses or switch on auto-upgrade for your response limits.
Design and AI on the free plan
Typeform's free plan includes design flexibility: you can use its pre-designed templates or add your own images and colour palette. Typeform AI is included too, so you can describe the form you want and let its chatbot build it, then edit the questions yourself. That makes the free plan a good place to draft a form you'll later publish on a paid plan.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
What happens if you downgrade to Free
If you pay for a while and then move back to Free, Typeform says the downgrade takes effect at the end of your paid period, so you keep paid access until then. After that, features not in the Free plan are restricted and forms that use them go into trial mode, which stops them publishing or collecting until you upgrade or remove those features. Your previously collected responses and forms aren't deleted, and if the new plan allows fewer seats, the most recently added seats are removed first.
Typeform's pricing page describes Basic, the first paid step, as including 100 responses a month for 1 user, with unlimited typeforms, AI-powered form creation, conditional logic and webhooks and integrations. For a small business collecting enquiries, that tenfold jump in responses is usually what makes Typeform workable.
My advice
Build your form on Typeform Free, test it in preview, and only share it when you know how many responses you'll need. For anything that collects leads or feedback from more than a handful of people, 10 a month won't last a week, and Basic is the realistic starting point. Don't count on deleting responses to stay under the limit: Typeform still counts them.
