Sprout Social is a premium social media management platform built for teams that publish, reply and report across many profiles. Its new Essentials plan changes the picture for smaller businesses, so it's worth looking at all five options before deciding Sprout is out of your budget.
Sprout Social plans and prices
| Plan | Price per seat a month | Social profiles | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $79 billed annually, $99 billed monthly | Up to 5 | Social media professionals focused on publishing |
| Standard | $199 | 5 | Small teams managing a few profiles |
| Professional | $299 | Unlimited | Teams with many profiles and high engagement |
| Advanced | $399 | Unlimited | Cross-functional teams and workflows |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Large-scale social operations |
Sprout's pricing page heads the plans with annual billing, and Professional is labelled its most popular plan. Every price on this page is per seat, so multiply by the number of people who need a login.
Essentials: Sprout's entry plan
Essentials is aimed at social media professionals who mainly need to publish well. It connects up to 5 social profiles, suggests optimal send times, tracks performance with profile and post-level reporting, and includes Trellis, Sprout's AI teammate, to make sense of your data.
For a small business or freelance social media manager, this is the plan to look at first. It's the only Sprout plan with a monthly billing price on the page, at $99 per seat a month, which makes it easier to test without a year's commitment.
Standard, Professional and Advanced compared
- Standard: 5 social profiles, a consolidated inbox and collaboration tools, keyword and location monitoring, the Trellis AI agent and review management.
- Professional: everything in Standard plus unlimited social profiles, message tagging, extensive competitor, tag and paid insights, and Enhance Post by AI Assist.
- Advanced: everything in Professional plus Enhance Reply by AI Assist, sentiment in the Smart Inbox and reviews, the Sprout API and helpdesk integrations, team productivity and customer care reports, and message spike alerts.
- Enterprise: everything in Advanced plus white-glove onboarding, a tailored plan, dedicated SSO setup and priority support.
AI credits and brand keywords
Sprout's comparison table lists 100 monthly AI agent credits per seat on Essentials, Standard, Professional and Advanced. Brand keywords per group, used for monitoring mentions, aren't included on Essentials, and the table lists 10 on Standard and Professional and 20 on Advanced. If social listening for your brand name matters, Essentials isn't enough.
Per-seat pricing in practice
Like other team platforms, Sprout prices per seat, so each person who needs a login adds the full plan price. A two-person team on Standard pays for two seats. That's why I always suggest listing who needs to publish or reply before choosing a plan, and keeping read-only stakeholders on reports rather than seats where you can.
The 30-day free trial
Sprout's pricing page offers a free 30-day trial with no credit card required, which is longer than many rivals. Use it to test the plan you'd buy. If you trial Professional and then buy Standard, you'll lose features your team got used to in the first month.
How to choose a Sprout Social plan
- List the people who need their own seat.
- Count the social profiles you manage. Five or fewer fits Essentials or Standard.
- Mainly publishing and reporting: Essentials.
- A shared inbox, monitoring and review management: Standard.
- Unlimited profiles and competitor insights: Professional.
- Helpdesk integrations, sentiment and the API: Advanced.

Monthly billing on the other plans
Sprout's page only prints a monthly billing price for Essentials. For Standard, Professional and Advanced it lists the annual billing price, and its FAQ includes a question on the difference between annual and monthly billing. If you want monthly billing on a higher plan, ask Sprout for the figure before you sign up, so you can compare the two like for like rather than assuming the annual rate applies.
Who Sprout suits best
Sprout is at its best when social media is a real team function: someone publishing, someone answering messages and reviews, and a manager reporting results upward. Its inbox, review management and reports are the reasons teams pay for it. If you're a solo owner posting a few times a week, a per-channel scheduler will do the job for much less, and Essentials is the only Sprout plan worth considering.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
My verdict
Sprout Social is a polished tool, but it's priced for teams. For a freelancer or small business, Essentials at $79 per seat a month billed annually is the realistic entry point, and the monthly option at $99 lets you test it for a few months without a year's commitment. Standard at $199 per seat makes sense once you need the shared inbox and review management. Use the full 30-day trial on the exact plan you plan to buy.
