Handyman software turns quotes, scheduling and invoices into one routine you run from your phone. Solo handymen mostly need fast quotes and invoices; growing teams need dispatch, timesheets and job histories. Free and low-commitment options exist, so start with the smallest tool that covers how you work today.
Handyman work is a lot of small jobs, and small jobs create a lot of admin. Every quote, every change on site and every invoice adds up, and it's usually done at the kitchen table after a long day.
This list covers apps for solo handymen, property maintenance businesses and small trade teams. If you're winning work online, my contractor marketing guide helps fill the calendar, and my notes on invoicing correctly as a sole trader cover the paperwork side.

Solo handyman or growing team?
If you work alone, you need quotes and invoices you can send from your phone, a simple calendar and a record of each customer. Once you add a second person, you also need to send them jobs, see where they are, collect their timesheets and keep job notes in one place. Pick software that fits the next twelve months of work, not the next five years, and make sure you can move your data if you outgrow it.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Quote faster with templates
- Build line items for your most common jobs, like hanging doors, fitting shelves or replacing taps.
- Add standard notes for access, materials and what's not included.
- Take photos on the first visit and attach them to the quote.
- Send the quote before you leave the driveway while the customer's still thinking about it.
- Set a follow-up reminder for two or three days later.
Your records protect you
Section 49 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, published on legislation.gov.uk, says every contract to supply a service is treated as including a term that the trader must perform the service with reasonable care and skill. If a customer ever disputes a job, before and after photos, signed quotes and notes saved against the job are your record of what was agreed and how it was done. Good handyman software keeps all of that attached to the customer automatically.
Getting invoices settled on the day
The easiest invoice to chase is the one you never have to chase. Send the invoice from your phone before you leave the job, with a link the customer can pay straight away. If the job changed on site, add the extra work to the invoice with a photo so there's no confusion about what was agreed.
For bigger jobs, agree stage payments in the quote and set reminders in your software for each stage. Customers are far happier paying when they can see what's been done, and you're not left carrying the materials bill for weeks. Keep every message about the job in the same place as the invoice.
Ask customers for a review as soon as the invoice is settled and they're happy. Most apps can send that request for you, and steady reviews bring in the next jobs.
Do you make software for handymen? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My advice on choosing handyman software
Run your next ten jobs through a trial from quote to invoice, including at least one job where the scope changes on site. That's where the differences between apps really show, and it's better to find out during a trial than mid-season.
Once the admin's under control, look at how you win the work. My guide to AI for tradespeople shows how to handle enquiries faster without hiring office help.
Frequently asked questions
What software do handymen use?
Most use a job management or field service app that covers quotes, scheduling, invoicing and customer records, often from a phone.
Is there free handyman software?
Some apps offer free plans for solo handymen, and most others offer a free trial of two weeks or more.
Can I send quotes from my phone?
Yes, nearly every app here lets you build and send quotes from your phone, often with photos and e-signatures.
Do I need software as a one-person handyman business?
Not on day one, but it saves hours each week once you're sending several quotes and invoices, and it keeps job records in one place.
What should handyman software keep a record of?
Quotes, changes agreed on site, photos, notes and invoices for every job, so you can show what was agreed if a customer disputes the work.
