Ko-fi in Indonesia: PayPal Fees, Stripe and Rupiah (2026)

Ko-fi doesn't hold or send your money: its help pages say supporters pay into your own PayPal or Stripe account. For Indonesia that moves the question to PayPal's rupiah withdrawal fees and Stripe's global page, which labels Indonesia as Preview. Ko-fi's page currencies don't include rupiah.

People in Indonesia often ask me which tip platform is the easiest for receiving money from fans abroad. Ko-fi is popular with illustrators, writers and streamers, and its approach is unusual: there's no Ko-fi wallet. Whether it suits you depends on what happens in your PayPal or Stripe account, so that's where I've looked, using Ko-fi's help centre plus the Indonesian PayPal fee page and Stripe's global list.

There's no Ko-fi wallet to wait on

Ko-fi's help centre describes a direct model. You link PayPal, Stripe or both, and money from a supporter is sent into the account you own. It says there's no payout schedule and no minimum balance to reach. It also says a PayPal or Stripe account is needed to accept payments, and that these are the only methods on offer now.

So the delays you may have read about on other platforms, such as account review queues, don't exist on Ko-fi's side. What you wait for is whatever your payment provider does next.

What PayPal's Indonesian fee page lists

PayPal's Indonesia fee page gives withdrawal charges in rupiah. A bank withdrawal costs nothing, when no currency conversion is involved, if the amount is greater than 1,500,000 rupiah, and 16,000 rupiah if it's less. A card withdrawal has a fixed fee of 46,000 rupiah, and a failed withdrawal returned by the bank costs 50,000 rupiah. It also puts Indonesia in its Asia Pacific group, with 3.0% for converting a balance.

These are PayPal's figures, and they may change. The takeaway is that withdrawing many small tips can cost more than withdrawing a few larger amounts. My separate guide to PayPal in Indonesia has more on the PayPal side.

Stripe's Preview label

Ko-fi says Stripe supports card payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay and points to Stripe's global page for the countries. That page labels Indonesia as Preview. Ko-fi's guide also says a standard Stripe account is needed and only a Stripe Connect account can be linked, so ask Stripe what it can open for you. If Stripe won't open an account for you, PayPal is the other half of the choice.

Ten page currencies, none of them rupiah

Ko-fi lists ten currencies for your page, including US dollars, euros, pounds, Singapore dollars and Thai baht. Indonesian rupiah isn't on the list. Ko-fi says only payments in a different currency get converted, and that PayPal and Stripe typically add a small percentage when they do. Setting your page to the currency you mostly receive helps keep that down.

Ko-fi's own cut

Ko-fi says it charges nothing on one-time tips on its Free option, and a flat 5% service fee on shop items, memberships, monthly tips and commissions. On Standard, a flat 5% also applies to tips. On top, PayPal and Stripe take their usual fees, which Ko-fi puts at usually around 3% plus thirty cents.

If you try the Stripe route

Ko-fi's guide says you open your page settings, go to the Payment tab and click Connect. A new window asks you to sign in to Stripe, or to create an account, which it says is free. Stripe then asks for your location, whether you're an individual or a business, some personal details, a link to where your work can be found, and a bank account for Stripe to send money to.

Before you commit, it helps to compare the two routes side by side: PayPal's withdrawal fees are listed in rupiah on its Indonesian page, while Stripe's fees are described by Ko-fi only as usually around 3% plus thirty cents. Neither page gives a total cost for a real tip, so work one example through with your own numbers before deciding.

Ko-fi notes that payments then go to your Stripe account directly and that you manage refunds and subscriptions from the Stripe dashboard. It says payouts from Stripe typically arrive within seven days.

Choosing between Free and Standard

Ko-fi says new creators now start with everything unlocked, and that you can opt out at any time to keep one-time tips fee-free. The trade is perks, such as supporter-only content and scheduled posts, against that flat 5% on tips. If tips are most of what you earn, the Free option keeps more of each one, while shop and membership income carries the 5% either way.

Other tools Ko-fi users ask for

Ko-fi's page says the payment methods creators request most are Payoneer, Wise, GCash, CashApp, Payeer and direct bank transfers, none of which it offers today. If you earn from clients and want those, Payoneer in Indonesia and Wise in Indonesia are separate routes, and neither plugs into Ko-fi.

Tax

Ko-fi says it isn't the merchant of record and can't give tax advice, and that sales tax or VAT is the creator's job to calculate and pay. Ask a local accountant how tips and shop income should be reported in Indonesia.
