Payoneer in Indonesia: Rupiah Account, Withdrawals and Fees (2026)

Payoneer lists the Indonesian rupiah among 13 currencies with local receiving account details, so a client can pay you the way they'd pay a local account. Withdrawal costs depend on your bank and currency, and Payoneer's own fee page gives a range of 1.2% to 4% for local-currency withdrawals. Check the fee shown before you confirm.

People in Indonesia ask me about Payoneer more than almost any other payment tool, usually after a client abroad says they can't pay by bank transfer. I'm not going to promise you a smooth run, because the fees depend on your bank and your currency. What I can do is tell you what Payoneer's own pages say, and what Bank Indonesia says about rupiah, so you know what to check before the first payment lands.

The rupiah account Payoneer lists for Indonesia

Payoneer's receiving accounts page says it offers local receiving account details in 13 currencies, and the Indonesian rupiah is one of them. The list also covers dollars, euros, pounds, yen, Singapore dollars and a handful of others, so a freelancer in Jakarta or Surabaya isn't limited to one route.

On the local receiving accounts page, the rupiah shows up for local bank details only. It isn't in the separate list of currencies you can receive by SWIFT wire. In plain terms, if a client wants to pay in rupiah, Payoneer's page points to the local-details route rather than a wire.

Payoneer also stresses that a receiving account isn't an actual bank account. It's a set of payment details that route money into your Payoneer balance. That matters when someone asks you to "open an account" and expects a bank statement.

Approval, ID and the first few days

Payoneer says approval for receiving accounts typically ranges from a few minutes to three business days, depending on your business type and location. You may be asked for identity documents and to fill in a questionnaire, which it describes as a one-time submission.

Payoneer also says a bank account you add for withdrawals is typically reviewed and activated within three business days. So if you have a deadline, add the account early rather than on the day you need the money.

What Bank Indonesia says about using rupiah at home

This one catches people out, so it's worth reading slowly. Bank Indonesia Circular No. 17/11/DKSP, dated 2015, says transactions inside Indonesia, by residents or non-residents, in cash or non-cash form, must be conducted in rupiah. Businesses must also quote prices in rupiah only.

The same circular lists exceptions, including international commercial transactions and deposits that banks hold in foreign currency. I'm not a lawyer, and I can't tell you where your own work falls, so ask your bank or an Indonesian accountant. What the circular does tell you is that the rule is about domestic dealings, and that the central bank publishes it openly.

Getting money out to an Indonesian bank

Payoneer says most withdrawals typically reach your local account within two business days. Its FAQ gives a wider range of one to three business days, and it says same-day arrival is possible for some transactions depending on currency, bank and region.

You can withdraw in the currency you earned or in another one. If the currencies differ, Payoneer says it converts at a rate shown before you confirm. I'd treat that screen as the real answer on cost, because the pages describe ranges rather than a fixed Indonesian price.

The fees Payoneer publishes, and the ones it doesn't control

Payoneer's fees page lists withdrawals to a bank account in the recipient's local currency at 1.2% to 4%. It adds that some countries have a minimum fee of up to 20.00 US dollars or equivalent. It doesn't print an Indonesia-only line, and its pricing page says fees depend on sender and recipient locations, payment method and currencies.

Receiving in a currency that isn't your local one carries a fee too: 1% with a minimum of 1.00 US dollars or equivalent, while a local-currency receiving account is listed as free. Bank charges are separate. Payoneer says intermediary banks on wire transfers may impose their own fees, typically averaging 20-30 US dollars or equivalent.

  • Ask the sender which route they'll use before you give out any details.
  • Check whether the money will land in rupiah or in a foreign currency.
  • Read the withdrawal summary for the rate and the fee before you confirm.
  • Ask your own bank whether it charges to receive an incoming transfer.

Where Payoneer's Indonesian page stops being specific

Payoneer publishes its site in Bahasa Indonesia, but the page I read describes the global offering rather than Indonesia-only terms. It doesn't list a rupiah withdrawal fee or a minimum. Anyone quoting you a precise Indonesian figure from memory is guessing, so I'd rather you see the number in your own account.

If you're comparing routes for the same job, my notes on how PayPal works for people in Indonesia cover the other tool people usually weigh up, and Payoneer for people in the Philippines shows how the same account looks in a neighbouring country.

Questions to settle before you rely on Payoneer in Indonesia

Ask what the client will pay in, who covers the sending fee, and how soon you need the money. Then check the fee line in your account, not in a screenshot someone posted. Payoneer says cards and other products depend on your eligibility, so don't plan around a card until you've seen it offered.

It's a useful tool for the right job. It just isn't magic, and the details above are where people lose money.
