Western Union's Pakistan page says cash pickup needs the MTCN, a CNIC, NICOP or passport, the approximate amount and the sending country. The catch is that receivers under 18 can't collect, and bank deposits must go into a local currency account.
If you work with clients abroad from Pakistan, or family overseas sends you money, Western Union comes up quickly. What people really want to know is what to carry to the counter, which banks it pays into and whether anything can stop the payout. I've read Western Union's own Pakistan send and receive pages and pulled out what they say, without adding guesses. I'm not telling you it's the right route for you, only how it works.
The pickup checklist Western Union lists for Pakistan
This is the most Pakistan-specific part of the page. To collect cash at an agent location, Western Union's receive page says you must provide the Money Transfer Control Number, a government-issued photo ID, the approximate amount, the sending country and the answer to the test question if there is one. It names the accepted photo IDs as a CNIC, NICOP or passport, and says a second valid ID may be needed if it's mandatory.
- The MTCN, which your sender gives you
- A CNIC, NICOP or passport
- The approximate amount, plus or minus ten percent
- The sending country
- The test question answer, if the sender set one
The amount rule is the one that surprises people. If you can't say roughly how much is coming, the agent may not release it, so confirm the figure with your sender in advance.
Under 18 and the minors rule
Western Union's page states plainly that receivers under 18 years old are not allowed to collect money in Pakistan, and it describes that as the minor age in Pakistan. If a student or teenager is expecting money from family abroad, an adult will need to be the receiver.
Which Pakistani banks Western Union names
The send page names Meezan Bank, HBL, UBL and Allied Bank as featured payout partners. It adds MCB Bank, Bank Alfalah, Bank Al Habib, Faysal Bank, Askari Bank, Standard Chartered, Easypaisa and Habib Metropolitan Bank. Easypaisa is the mobile wallet name there, so a wallet route is part of the picture, not only bank accounts.
Western Union also says there are more than 13,000 agent locations in Pakistan where a receiver can pick up a transfer, which matters if you live outside a big city.
Local currency account only
The receive page says the receiver's account must be a local currency payout account, and that funds are paid into the account number you provide. So if you hold a foreign currency account and expect dollars to arrive there, ask your bank before you tell a client to send that way.
Care with the account number matters, too. Western Union warns that money goes into whichever account matches the number given, and that the receiver's name should match the bank account owner.
Receiving into a bank account online
If you bank with one of Western Union's partner banks, the receive page says you can log in to your online banking, enter your sender's details and the tracking number, select your transfer and choose the account to deposit into. A receipt shows if it has completed. You can also change a transfer's delivery method from the Update delivery method menu, and your sender must confirm the change.
The sender limit you may bump into
On the send side, Western Union says you can send up to 5,000 US dollars to Pakistan in a single money transfer. If a client plans a bigger payment, they may have to split it or use another route. It's worth asking them before the invoice is due, not after.
Bank deposits are described as valid only for Western Union website or app transactions sent from the United States, Great Britain, France, Italy and Germany.

A short message to send before the transfer
Before a client or relative sends anything, I'd message them with the route you want, your exact name as it appears on your ID, and the amount you expect. That one message covers three of the checks Western Union lists: the name match, the approximate amount and the delivery method. It also gives you a written record, which is handy if a payout is questioned later.
If the transfer was started at an agent location, Western Union says the delivery method can be changed afterwards, but your sender has to confirm the change. So don't wait until the day to find out the sender has gone quiet. Agree the plan early, and keep the tracking number somewhere you can find it.
Scam messages that use the Western Union name
Anyone who asks you to pay a fee before you can collect, or asks for your online banking login, is not following the steps on Western Union's page. The real process needs your ID and the details above. If a message pushes you to act fast, stop and phone your sender on a number you already trust.
Other ways Pakistani earners get paid
Western Union is one route among several. Some people compare it with what Wise offers in Pakistan or look at PayPal for Pakistani users, and a platform like Stripe in Pakistan raises its own questions. Which suits you depends on your clients and your bank.
For anything about declaring foreign income or State Bank of Pakistan rules, ask a local accountant. That's their job, not mine.
