KDP's payment options page lists Indonesia for direct deposit in IDR, and its bank page asks only for a BIC/SWIFT code for Indonesian accounts. There's no check or wire option. The IRS treaty table lists a copyrights royalty rate of 10 for Indonesia, but KDP's default withholding is 30% until your tax details are in.
Indonesian authors and designers keep asking whether Amazon KDP will pay them into a local bank account, and the answer is on KDP's own pages. I've read the payment, bank account, threshold and tax help articles, plus the IRS treaty table. Indonesia has a listed direct deposit route in rupiah, and a bank setup that looks different from most countries. I'm not a tax adviser, so check the details with someone local.
Rupiah direct deposit and a SWIFT-only bank form
KDP's payment options page lists Indonesia with direct deposit in IDR, the Indonesian rupiah. There's no check and no wire entry for Indonesia, so direct deposit is the single route on the table.
What stands out is the bank form. KDP's bank account page lists BIC/SWIFT code as the bank field for Indonesia. Some countries need a routing number, an IFSC code or an IBAN, but Indonesia is shown with a SWIFT code only, alongside the account number. Have your bank's SWIFT code ready before you start.
No payout minimum on direct deposit
Per the thresholds page, a minimum payout only applies to check and wire. Direct deposit, the one Indonesia gets, carries none, and KDP also calls it the quickest and most secure way to collect royalties.
In practice a quiet month still pays out. The amount arrives in rupiah after KDP converts it, so bank charges on your side are worth asking about.
What the IRS treaty table lists for Indonesia
The IRS treaty Table 1 lists Indonesia with a copyrights royalty rate of 10, under treaty article 13(2) / P34. That's the number the table gives for that income class.
KDP's own tax page gives the starting point for publishers outside the US: 30% withholding on eBook sales through Amazon.com, and on print sales through four of the stores, including Amazon.co.jp. A treaty rate can replace that default. The two figures aren't in conflict: one is where you begin, the other is what you may qualify for after the tax interview.
Your taxpayer number and the interview
Until a taxpayer number is supplied, KDP says no reduced rate can be applied. Anyone without a US number is allowed to give the tax ID that their home tax office issued, which for an Indonesian resident means the Indonesian one.
Ask an Indonesian accountant which number to use and how to treat royalties in your own return. I can only repeat what KDP and the IRS say.
| What I checked | What the official pages say for Indonesia |
|---|---|
| Payment method | Direct deposit |
| Payout currency | IDR |
| Check or wire | Not listed for Indonesia |
| Bank field on KDP's form | BIC/SWIFT code |
| IRS table copyrights rate | 10, article 13(2) / P34 |
| Default US withholding for non-US publishers | 30% on certain sales |
Naming and validating the account
Names are the sticking point. KDP wants the account holder name to mirror your bank's records, with no leading or trailing initials and a minimum of two words. Many Indonesians have a single name on official records, so look at how your bank spells yours before adding the account.
After you add the account, KDP runs a validation that takes up to five business days and sends an email if it fails. Adding or removing an account also triggers two-step verification. I wouldn't promise that a single-name record works, because KDP's page doesn't address it. If the form rejects your name, ask KDP support.

When to expect the rupiah
Royalties go out monthly, roughly 60 days after the close of the month when the sale was reported, according to KDP. Once paid, the deposit shows in your bank within 1 to 5 business days. Because earnings build up separately for each store, you may see several payments land together.
If a sale was priced in another currency, KDP says Amazon does the conversion itself at its own rate, fees baked in. Most of your readers won't be paying in rupiah.
Other income tools people compare
KDP says alternative methods such as Amazon Payments or PayPal are not available at this time. For other income, my guides on PayPal in Indonesia and Payoneer in Indonesia explain what each says for Indonesian users, and Wise in Indonesia does the same for that service.
Scams that use Amazon's name
- Nobody legitimate needs a payment from you before royalties are released.
- Don't share your banking app login, OTP or SWIFT details with anyone who messages you first.
- Edit your payout details in the Getting Paid screen of your KDP login, nowhere else.
- Be wary of anyone selling a KDP package that promises an income.
So, does Amazon KDP work in Indonesia?
On KDP's own table it does, through direct deposit in rupiah with a SWIFT-only bank form. The details to get right are the name match, the tax interview and the roughly two-month lag. Whether a book sells is a different question, and no help page can answer that.
