To delete a Facebook Marketplace listing on a computer, click Facebook Marketplace, then Selling, Your listings, Options, and Delete twice. In the app, go to Profile, Your listings, Options, Delete listing. You can't delete one with a pending order, a shipping label or a sold status.
Maybe the item found a home, maybe you changed your mind, or maybe a listing is bringing you messages you'd rather not answer. Whatever the reason, taking a listing down should be quick. It usually is, apart from one catch that Facebook spells out: some listings can't be deleted at all.
I'll show you the steps on a computer and in the phone app, then explain when the Delete button is missing, and what to do instead. Everything here follows Facebook's own help pages.
Deleting a Facebook Marketplace listing on a computer
- From your Feed, click Facebook Marketplace.
- Click Selling in the left menu.
- Click Your listings.
- Click Options on the listing you want to delete.
- Click Delete, then click Delete again to confirm.
Deleting a Facebook Marketplace listing in the iPhone or Android app
- Tap Menu in the top left of Facebook, then tap Facebook Marketplace. If you don't see it, tap See more.
- Tap Profile, then tap Your listings.
- Tap Options next to the item you want to delete, then tap Delete listing.
- Tap Delete to confirm.
The two routes look different but do the same job. On a computer you go through Selling, while on the phone you go through Profile. If your menu has slightly different labels, look for Your listings and work from there.
When you can and can't delete a Facebook Marketplace listing
This is the part most guides skip. Facebook says you can delete a listing if:
- It's a single-quantity listing that's available and in stock.
- It's a multi-quantity listing that has never received an order.
- It isn't waiting to be accepted or declined.
- A shipping label hasn't been generated for it.
And you can't delete a listing if an order is pending or waiting to be accepted or declined, if a label has been generated, or if the listing has sold. Facebook adds a note about Checkout with shipping: listings with active orders can't be edited or deleted. If an order is pending, shipped or complete, you'll need to deal with that order first.
| Situation | Can you delete it? |
|---|---|
| Single item, still available | Yes |
| Multi-quantity, never ordered | Yes |
| Order waiting to be accepted or declined | No |
| Shipping label already generated | No |
| Listing has sold | No |
Marking a Facebook Marketplace listing as sold instead of deleting it
If the item has gone and you just want it off the front page, deleting isn't your only option. Facebook's help for managing a listing lists three things you can do: edit its details, delete it, or mark it as sold or pending. On Android, Facebook's delete article also says you can mark a listing as sold instead of deleting it.
Marking it as sold keeps a tidy record, and it tells browsing buyers the item has gone so they stop messaging you. Deleting is better when you want the listing gone completely.
Editing a Facebook Marketplace listing instead of deleting it
Sometimes the problem is a wrong detail or a poor photo, and deleting means starting again. To edit on a computer, go to Facebook Marketplace, then Selling, then Your listings, click Options on the listing and choose Edit listing. Change the details and click Update. In the phone app, go to Menu, Facebook Marketplace, Profile, Your listings, tap Options, then Edit listing, make your changes and tap Save.
Facebook also points out that you don't need to edit a multi-quantity listing to show how many are left. It shows buyers automatically once there are 10 or fewer left, and a single item shows 'Only 1 for sale'.
What to do with a rejected Facebook Marketplace listing
A listing can disappear from view because Facebook rejected it, not because you deleted it. Facebook says it may reject a listing that doesn't follow its Commerce Policies or Community Standards, and you may be able to request a review. If it finds a mistake, it restores the listing.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
To find out why a listing was rejected, Facebook's steps are: go to your profile, select Profile status, choose Facebook Marketplace below Extra features, select Your listings, click the listing under Needs attention, and click See details. To request a review, use Request review from the same area. If you don't see the option, it may be that it's been more than 180 days since the listing was rejected, you already asked for a review, or a review isn't available for that rule.
Dealing with messages after you delete a Facebook Marketplace listing
Deleting a listing doesn't stop old chats existing, so you may still have conversations with interested buyers. Be polite and let them know the item is gone. If you'd like to understand how seen messages work when you reply, my page on whether Facebook has read receipts explains it.
If you're the sort who tidies up other old content too, my guide to finding archived Facebook posts helps you see what's tucked away in your account.
If you can't delete your Facebook Marketplace listing
- Check whether the listing has an order that's pending, labelled or complete. Facebook says those can't be deleted.
- Look for Delete listing under Options on Your listings, not on the public listing page.
- Try marking the listing as sold or pending instead.
- Update the Facebook app and try again, as menus differ between versions.
- If nothing works, report the problem inside Facebook using the help centre.
