How to Cancel LinkedIn Premium (Desktop, App, Apple, Google Play)

To cancel LinkedIn Premium, where you bought it decides where you cancel: for a direct purchase, click Me, then Premium features, then Manage, open Purchases, select the active plan, choose Cancel and confirm, while Apple App Store and Google Play buyers cancel through the LinkedIn app. LinkedIn Help says to cancel at least one day before your next billing date.

Premium is easy to start and easy to forget about, especially after a free trial. If you've decided it isn't doing enough for your business, cancelling takes a couple of minutes, as long as you go in through the right door. I've followed LinkedIn's own Help pages for the steps and kept them in the order they apply to you.

LinkedIn updates its menus, so if a label looks a little different, look for the same wording rather than the same position.

Where you bought LinkedIn Premium decides how to cancel it

LinkedIn Help splits the answer by purchase route. There are three: you bought it directly on LinkedIn on a computer or in a mobile browser, you bought it through the Apple App Store, or you bought it through Google Play. If you're not sure, look at your email receipts and your account. The receipt tells you who handled the purchase.

Cancelling LinkedIn Premium on a computer

For a direct purchase, LinkedIn Help gives these steps on desktop or in a mobile browser:

  1. Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
  2. Select Premium features from the dropdown.
  3. Click the Manage option under Plan Details in the left pane. You'll be taken to LinkedIn Admin Center.
  4. Click Purchases in the left pane.
  5. Select your Active plan.
  6. Click the Cancel option under Actions.
  7. Click Confirm cancel.

Cancelling LinkedIn Premium in the mobile app

LinkedIn Help gives these steps in the LinkedIn app:

  1. Tap your profile photo.
  2. Tap Premium features.
  3. Tap the Manage option. This opens the Manage Premium account settings page.
  4. Tap the Cancel option and follow the prompts.

One exception from LinkedIn Help: if you bought Premium on iOS through the mobile web, LinkedIn processes the payment, so you cancel on desktop, not in the iOS app.

Cancelling LinkedIn Premium if you bought it through Apple

LinkedIn Help says an Apple App Store purchase is cancelled from your Apple device, in the LinkedIn mobile app, using the same steps as above. Two things to know. The plan ends at the close of the current billing cycle, and you must wait for that to finish before buying a new Premium plan. LinkedIn can't handle billing support for Apple App Store purchases, so for billing questions you contact Apple, and you can look at your purchase history through Apple.

Cancelling LinkedIn Premium if you bought it through Google Play

For Google Play, LinkedIn Help says you can cancel on the LinkedIn desktop site or in the LinkedIn mobile app, following the same Me, Premium features, Manage, Cancel route. It also says LinkedIn can't provide purchase history for plans bought through Google, so check your Google Play order history. Google publishes its own cancellation instructions as well.

When your LinkedIn Premium really stops

The timing differs for an ongoing plan and a free trial, and this is the detail people trip over:

  • Cancel at least one day before your next billing date to avoid another charge.
  • Cancelling an ongoing plan keeps Premium active until the end of the current billing cycle.
  • Cancelling a free trial ends Premium access immediately.

So if you're on a trial and want to explore a little longer, don't cancel on day one. If you're on an ongoing plan and decide early in the cycle, you keep your features until the cycle ends.

What you lose after cancelling LinkedIn Premium

LinkedIn Help says your account returns to a Basic free plan. You lose Premium features such as InMail credits, profile insights, LinkedIn Learning, the Premium badge, advanced search filters and competitive insights. Your profile, connections and posts stay. If you use LinkedIn to get clients, my notes on a LinkedIn marketing strategy work on a Basic account too.

LinkedIn Help has a way back if you cancelled by mistake. You can restore a cancelled plan before the current billing cycle ends, on the desktop site only. Click Me, choose Premium features, open the manage option under Plan details, go to Purchases, select the plan under Active, choose the option to reverse the cancellation in Actions, and confirm. It also says you can't restore if you've cancelled twice after restoring before.

If you can't find the cancel option for LinkedIn Premium

  1. Check where you bought it. An Apple or Google Play purchase has to be cancelled through the LinkedIn app, not the website admin page.
  2. Make sure you're signed in to the account that holds the plan.
  3. On iOS, remember a purchase made through the mobile web is cancelled on desktop.
  4. If a charge looks wrong, LinkedIn's Help has a page on unrecognised charges, and billing problems can go to LinkedIn support.
  5. Closing your LinkedIn account? LinkedIn Help says to cancel any active plan first.

If you manage a business presence there too, my guide to managing a LinkedIn Company Page is a good next stop.

Cancelling LinkedIn Premium: a quick checklist

  • Work out where you bought it.
  • Cancel at least one day before the next billing date.
  • Remember a free trial ends the moment you cancel.
  • Screenshot the confirmation.
  • Keep an eye on your email for the confirmation message.
