Thrive Market is a real US online grocer, founded in 2014 and based in Los Angeles, that sells natural and organic food through a paid membership. Its homepage says members save an average of 40 dollars on every order, based on Compare At prices and subject to change. The catch is that you join before you shop, so check the membership terms first.
Thrive Market advertises everywhere, and an ad plus a membership wall makes plenty of people ask the obvious question before they type in a card. That's sensible. I've read what Thrive Market says about itself on its homepage and about page, and what Wikipedia reports, and I'll be clear where I couldn't find the small print.
Who is behind Thrive Market
According to Wikipedia, Thrive Market is an American membership-based online retailer of natural and organic food. It was founded in 2014 by Nick Green, Gunnar Lovelace, Kate Mulling and Sasha Siddhartha, and it's headquartered in Los Angeles, California.
It's not a pop-up or a drop-shipping shop, in other words. It's a company with a long public history, named founders and a recognisable brand.
How the Thrive Market membership model works
Wikipedia says Thrive Market uses an annual membership model. You join, then shop at member prices. Thrive's homepage says members save an average of 40 dollars on every order, and that the savings are based off Compare At prices and may vary. It also advertises up to 30% off select brands and weekly sales.
The figure matters less than its footnote. A saving measured against a Compare At price is only as good as that comparison, so check a few items you buy regularly against your usual store before you decide it's worth it.
Thrive Market membership fees, renewal and cancellation
I couldn't find the membership fee, the renewal rule or the cancellation steps on the pages I could read, so I won't guess. The footnotes mention that some offers aren't available for monthly memberships, which suggests a monthly option exists as well as the annual one.
Before you pay, find these on Thrive's own terms or help pages:
- How much the membership costs, and whether that's yearly or monthly.
- Whether it renews automatically, and on what date.
- How to cancel, and whether a refund is offered.
- What happens to an order that arrives damaged or wrong.
Take a screenshot of the checkout page. If you're buying groceries, the cheapest mistake to avoid is a membership you forgot to cancel.
The Thrive Market guarantee and price match
Thrive's homepage promises low prices and lists a Price Match Guarantee, but the page I could read gives no detail on how it works. Read the full wording before you rely on it. The about page also says the groceries are 100% non-GMO, which is Thrive's own claim, so treat it as one.
Shipping and free gifts at Thrive Market
The homepage mentions free gifts with orders that qualify for free shipping, but doesn't say what the threshold is. Thrive has also advertised fast delivery to much of the country, though I didn't find a current statement of delivery areas. Check that your address is covered before you subscribe.
What Thrive Market gives back
Wikipedia says each paid membership donates a free membership to a family in need in the US. Thrive's about page says that when you join, you pay for a free one-year membership for someone in need. It also says Thrive is proud to accept SNAP EBT, which Wikipedia dates to 2024, when it became the first online-only grocer to take it.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Wikipedia also says Thrive became the first US online grocer with B Corp certification in 2020. A B Corp badge is useful context, but it isn't a guarantee about any single order.
How big is Thrive Market?
Thrive's about page says it has 1.7 million members. That's the company's own number and I can't verify it independently, but it points to a business with a large customer base rather than a tiny storefront.
Checking Thrive Market against other online shops
If you like comparing sites before you commit, my breakdown of whether Etsy is legit follows the same approach. And if you're trying to cut your shopping bills in general, my roundup of money-saving sites for tech buyers covers a different corner of the same problem.
Spotting fake Thrive Market offers
A free box, a huge giveaway, or a text saying your order failed can be a scam using a brand name. Go to the website by typing the address in yourself, and don't enter card details on a page you reached from a message.

| How do you buy? | Through a membership; Wikipedia says annual |

My verdict on Thrive Market
Thrive Market is a real, established company with a clear business model. The things to scrutinise are the ones every membership has: the fee, auto-renewal and how you leave. If the groceries you buy are on the site and the savings stack up for your basket, it can be worth it. If they don't, a membership is just another bill.
