To block someone on Pinterest, open their profile, select the ellipsis icon under their profile details, choose Block and confirm. The detail people miss: Pinterest doesn't notify them, but their Pins may still appear in your search results and on shared group boards.
Pinterest is usually one of the calmer corners of the internet, which is part of its charm. Still, now and then someone leaves unpleasant comments, sends messages you didn't ask for or keeps popping up on your Pins. When that happens, blocking them is quick, quiet and completely in your control.
Here's how to block someone on Pinterest on a computer and in the app, what blocking changes for both of you, how to undo it, and when you should report the account as well. Everything follows Pinterest's own help centre wording, so the buttons should match what you see.
Blocking someone on Pinterest from a computer
You block from the person's profile, not from a Pin or a message thread. Pinterest's help gives these steps:
- Go to the profile of the person you'd like to block.
- Click the ellipsis icon under their profile details. On a business profile, it sits in the top-right corner instead.
- Click Block.
- Click Block again to confirm.
- Click OK to close the pop-up.
Blocking someone in the Pinterest app
The app works the same way on iPhone and Android:
- Open the person's profile, for example by tapping their name on a Pin or comment.
- Tap the ellipsis icon under their profile details (top-right on business profiles).
- Tap Block.
- Tap Block again to confirm.
If you can't see their profile details, scroll up to the top of the profile first. Menus vary a little by app version.
What changes after you block someone on Pinterest
According to Pinterest's help centre, blocking stops the person from following you, messaging you or interacting with your Pins. Their Pins also stop appearing in your home feed. That covers most of the ways someone can bother you on the platform.
There are a few gaps worth knowing about, though:
- Their Pins may still show up in search results and on group boards you both belong to.
- Pins you've already saved from them stay on your profile. You can edit or delete those separately if you'd rather not keep them.
- Your public Pins aren't hidden from the internet. Anything you want kept to yourself belongs on a private board.
Does the person know you blocked them on Pinterest?
Pinterest doesn't send a notification when you block or unblock someone. Its help article says they'll only find out if they try to follow you or interact with your Pins and can't. So there's no announcement, but if they come looking, they may work it out.
| After you block someone | What Pinterest's help says |
|---|---|
| Can they follow you? | No |
| Can they message you? | No |
| Can they interact with your Pins? | No |
| Will their Pins show in your home feed? | No |
| Could you still see their Pins in search or group boards? | Possibly |
| Are they told? | No notification is sent |
Unblocking someone on Pinterest
Blocking isn't permanent. If things have calmed down, you can unblock from your settings:
- On a computer: open Settings, select Social permissions, scroll to Blocked accounts and choose Edit list. Click Unblock next to the account, then Unblock again to confirm. On a business account, reach Settings through the arrow-down icon at the top-right.
- In the app: tap your profile photo, open your settings, tap Social permissions (some versions say Social permissions and activity), then Blocked accounts, and tap Unblock next to the person.
Pinterest doesn't tell them you've unblocked them either. If they used to follow you, don't assume that comes back on its own: Pinterest's help doesn't say either way, so check your followers list if it matters to you.

When to report someone on Pinterest as well as blocking
A block protects you, but it doesn't tell Pinterest that someone is breaking the rules. If an account is bullying or harassing you, Pinterest's help points you to its reporting guidelines so its team can review the behaviour. If you ever feel unsafe, report it to Pinterest and contact the police. Blocking first and reporting next is a sensible order: you get peace straight away, and Pinterest can look at the account.
One practical tip: before you block, jot down the account's name or take a screenshot of the comment or message. Once you've blocked someone, it can be harder to find their profile again, and a clear note makes any report you send later much easier for Pinterest to follow up.
Blocking on a Pinterest business profile
If you run a business account, you'll sometimes get spammy comments or messages from accounts trying to sell you something. Pinterest's business help says you can also block from the engagement tab, which you open with the megaphone icon at the top-right: select the ellipsis icon and choose Block user. That saves visiting every profile one by one. I'd keep an eye on comments on your most popular Pins, since that's where spam tends to gather.
Most social platforms work in a similar way, so if you manage several accounts, my guides to blocking someone on Facebook and blocking a contact on WhatsApp follow the same pattern.
If you can't block someone on Pinterest
- Make sure you're on their profile, not just looking at one of their Pins.
- Look in the top-right corner if it's a business profile, since the ellipsis moves there.
- Update the Pinterest app if the Block option is missing.
- If the account keeps coming back under new names, report it to Pinterest through its help centre.
- Check you're logged in to the right account if you manage both a personal and a business profile.

Open their profile, select the ellipsis icon under their profile details (top-right on business profiles), choose Block and confirm with Block again.

Pinterest says blocking stops them following you, messaging you or interacting with your Pins. Its help doesn't promise your public Pins disappear from view, so keep anything sensitive on a private board.
How do I unblock someone on Pinterest?
Go to Settings, then Social permissions, then Blocked accounts, and select Unblock next to the person. Confirm when asked.
Should I report as well as block?
If someone is harassing or bullying you, yes. Block them first, then report the account so Pinterest can review it. If you feel unsafe, contact the police.
