To delete a Pinterest board, open it, select the ellipsis icon, choose Edit board, then select Delete and confirm with Delete forever. The detail people miss: every Pin on the board goes too, though Pinterest gives you seven days to restore it from Recently deleted on a computer or Android.
Boards are the backbone of Pinterest, and most of us have a few that made sense once. Holiday ideas from years back, a hobby you've dropped, a mood board for a project that never happened. Clearing them out makes your profile feel lighter and helps Pinterest show you ideas you care about now.
Before you hit delete, though, it's worth knowing one thing: removing a board takes every Pin on it too. I'll walk you through the steps Pinterest's help centre gives for computers and phones, the short restore window, and the two softer options that keep your Pins safe.
Deleting a Pinterest board on a computer
On the website, the delete option sits inside the board's edit screen. Here's the route from Pinterest's help:
- Log in to Pinterest and open your profile.
- Click the board you'd like to remove.
- Click the ellipsis icon beside the board name.
- Select Edit board.
- Click Delete at the bottom-left of the window.
- Click Delete forever to confirm.
The words Delete forever sound final, but there's a short grace period, which I'll come to in a moment.
Deleting a Pinterest board in the app
Pinterest's help lists the app steps like this, and the wording shifts slightly between app versions:
- Open the app and tap your profile picture to reach your saved tab.
- Tap Boards (on a business account, tap Saved).
- Open the board you'd like to delete.
- Tap the ellipsis icon at the top-right and select Edit board.
- Scroll down and tap Delete or Delete board.
- Tap Delete or Delete forever to confirm.
What disappears when you delete a Pinterest board
Pinterest's help is clear on this: when you delete a board, all the Pins on the board are deleted too. That includes Pins you saved from other people and Pins you created yourself. If a board holds anything you'd like to keep, move those Pins to another board before you delete it.
This is why I'd never delete a board in a hurry on a business profile. A board full of your own product Pins might still be sending people to your website, so it's worth checking which Pins are worth rescuing first.
Restoring a deleted Pinterest board within seven days
Changed your mind? According to Pinterest's help centre, you have seven days to restore a board from the Recently deleted section. There's a catch: Pinterest says you can only restore on a computer or an Android device, not on an iPhone.
- On a computer: open the Saved tab from your profile picture, scroll to Recently deleted boards, click Restore Boards, choose the board and click Restore. Business accounts use the Recently deleted section in the Saved tab and Restore boards.
- On Android: go to your profile, tap Boards, scroll to Recently deleted, tap Restore, choose the board and tap Restore.
- On iPhone: borrow a computer or log in on the Pinterest website to restore it.
After those seven days, the board and its Pins are gone, so don't leave it to chance if you're unsure.
Archiving a Pinterest board instead of deleting it
If you're not sure you'll miss a board, archiving is the safer middle ground. Pinterest's help says an archived board moves to the bottom of your profile, disappears from your public profile and can be unarchived at any time. The only limit is that you can't save new Pins to it while it's archived.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- Open the board from your profile.
- Select the ellipsis icon beside the board name (top-right in the app).
- Choose Archive or Archive board.
- Confirm with Archive.
Merging a Pinterest board into another one
Sometimes the real problem is two boards that cover the same idea. Merging moves the Pins from one board into another and deletes the empty one, so nothing is lost. Pinterest's help says the source board is deleted after the merge, and its followers don't move across, so it's best for small personal boards rather than ones with a following.
| What you want | Pick this |
|---|---|
| Board and Pins gone for good | Delete (restorable for seven days) |
| Hide the board but keep everything | Archive |
| Combine two similar boards | Merge |
| Keep a few Pins, drop the rest | Move the keepers, then delete |
Tidying Pinterest boards on a business profile
For small businesses, boards are how people browse your world. A tidy set of clearly named boards makes your profile look cared for and helps Pinterest understand what you're about. When I review a business profile, I look for boards with vague names, boards with only a handful of Pins and seasonal boards that are out of date.
My advice is to archive seasonal boards rather than delete them, then bring them back each year. If you'd like to see why a well-run Pinterest presence matters for small firms, I've explained it in what makes Pinterest good for promoting a business, and my look at one brand's Pinterest strategy shows how boards fit into a bigger plan.
If you can't delete a Pinterest board
- It's a group board you joined rather than created: Pinterest's help describes the owner as the one who manages collaborators, so talk to the owner, or use Pinterest's separate steps for leaving a group board.
- You can't see Edit board: make sure you've opened the board from your own profile.
- The restore option is missing: you're probably on an iPhone, where Pinterest says restoring isn't available.
- Old app version: update Pinterest and try again.
Frequently asked questions
How do I delete a Pinterest board?
Open the board, select the ellipsis icon, choose Edit board, then select Delete and confirm with Delete forever. The steps are similar on a computer and in the app.
Does deleting a Pinterest board delete the Pins?
Yes. Pinterest says that when you delete a board, all the Pins on the board are deleted too. Move any Pins you want to keep first.
Can I restore a deleted Pinterest board?
Yes, within seven days, from the Recently deleted section. Pinterest says you can restore on a computer or Android, but not on an iPhone.
What's the difference between archiving and deleting a board?
Archiving hides the board from your public profile but keeps every Pin, and you can unarchive it at any time. Deleting removes the board and its Pins after the seven-day restore window.
Should I move Pins before deleting a board?
Yes, if any are worth keeping. Use Organize on the board to select the keepers and move them, then delete the board with the rest.
